TV-Series
Description
Ayumi Otosaka, known as "Ayu," is the younger sister of Shunsuke and Yuu Otosaka. She possesses waist-length dark brown hair, typically styled with three red hair clips and three strands falling on her forehead, light violet eyes, and a short stature for her age. Her voice is high-pitched.

Cheerful and sociable, Ayumi easily makes friends and remains popular at her middle school. She deeply cares for her older brother Yuu, ensuring he wakes up early each day to prepare his breakfast. Ayumi handles most household cooking, surpassing Yuu's skill, and consistently incorporates a specific pizza sauce into every dish to evoke memories of their mother for him. She becomes intensely excited, sometimes to the point of nosebleeds, when encountering or discussing her idol, Yusa Nishimori from How-Low-Hello.

Initially unaware of supernatural abilities, Ayumi believes Yuu's frequent absences are due to legitimate student council activities at Hoshinoumi Academy. She later mentions declining an invitation from a boy at her school.

After catching a cold, Ayumi disobeys Yuu's instruction to rest and secretly attends school. There, her classmate Konishi confronts and threatens her with a box cutter. Intense fear triggers Ayumi's latent ability, "collapse," for the first time. Immediately before activation, a visible glow emanates from her hair. This power causes structures and objects around her to crumble and disintegrate without generating ground tremors, distinct from earthquake generation. Its uncontrolled use catastrophically collapses the school building. Ayumi perishes in the incident; Yuu survives after being caught in the aftermath while attempting her rescue.

In an alternate timeline, Yuu utilizes a time-leaping ability acquired from Shunsuke. He travels back to the day before Ayumi's death and hides in a maintenance cabinet at her school. When Konishi threatens Ayumi again, Yuu intervenes, frightening Konishi away. Yuu then permanently steals Ayumi's "collapse" power using his own ability, preventing its activation and averting the building's destruction. Following this rescue, a fearful Ayumi expresses her distress to Yuu, remains physically close to him, and frequently hugs him for comfort. She resumes her normal life, including cooking meals with the signature pizza sauce and maintaining her daily routines.

Her name combines the characters for "walk" (歩) and "not yet" (未). The surname Otosaka means "witty" (乙) and "slope" (坂). Ayumi makes a brief cameo appearance in *Angel Beats!*.
