Description
Iori Asahina, the tenth son of the Asahina family, is an 18-year-old student at the prestigious Bright Centrair Private Academy. His responsibilities include maintaining the family garden. He possesses slate-grey or greyish-blue short hair, hazel eyes, and a slim, pale physique, standing initially at 175 cm and later reaching 177 cm. He typically wears his school uniform—a white and dark blue blazer with trousers—and conceals a cross necklace beneath his clothes.

Externally, Iori presents a refined, prince-like demeanor marked by calmness, perceptiveness, and reserved politeness. This charismatic presence makes him popular across schools, though his brothers describe him as reclusive and occasionally anti-social. He possesses extensive knowledge of floriography, frequently giving flowers to his stepsister Ema Hinata to mirror her emotional state or offer support.

Beneath this composed exterior, Iori harbors intense emotional turmoil stemming from the death of his former girlfriend, Fuyuka, in a car accident. This trauma left him suicidal; he attempted suicide using the cross necklace, falsely attributed to Fuyuka but actually given by his brother Kaname. This grief manifests as a possessive and unstable "yandere" side, particularly triggered during winter or stressful periods. Without Ema's intervention, this instability nearly led him to murder Kaname, whom he blames for interfering in his life.

His relationship with Kaname is complex: Kaname initially helped him cope with Fuyuka's death, making them the closest brothers, but Iori later resented Kaname's perceived intrusiveness before they eventually reconciled. Iori is intensely protective of Ema, showing subtle jealousy when others flirt with her. He confesses his love by gifting her an iris, symbolizing his willingness to "risk everything" for her. His attachment to Ema acts as a stabilizing force, though it sometimes surfaces as possessiveness, such as suggesting they elope when she faces family distress.

Iori's portrayal varies across media. The anime omits Fuyuka's existence, resulting in a warmer personality and less strained sibling dynamics. Conversely, the novels and games emphasize his trauma-driven volatility, including a "bad end" where his psychological struggles culminate tragically. All versions depict his eventual career as a model in the same agency as his brother Fuuto.

His development centers on healing from grief and finding purpose through his bonds. While reliant on Ema for emotional stability, he gradually mends his relationship with Kaname and commits to living for Ema's sake, moving away from self-destructive tendencies.
