OVA
Description
Kōkin Shūyū serves as a strategic fighter and protector within the Ikki Tousen narrative. He is the cousin and childhood companion of Hakufu Sonsaku, having grown up together under his father's care after her father departed for war. This bond evolved into a lifelong vow to serve and safeguard Hakufu, even at personal risk, alongside underlying romantic feelings.

Inheriting the soul of the strategist Zhou Yu, he possesses tactical intellect comparable to Koumei Shokatsuryou. Despite latent capabilities suggesting A-rank potential, his reserved nature and limited combat exposure earned him a C-rank designation. He typically avoids confrontations but demonstrates proficiency in chi manipulation and environment-based tactics during critical engagements, such as triggering strategic debris collapses to outmaneuver the physically superior Chuukou Kyocho during the Battle of Red Cliffs.

Key developments include a near-fatal confrontation with Genpou Saji during the "Big Four Arc," where he sustained severe injuries requiring hospitalization after attempting to reach Hakufu against orders. His resolve was further tested when Hakufu entered a spiritually corrupted state; he intervened to temporarily stabilize her during conflicts involving Ukitsu. An encounter with Kan-u at Seito revealed vengeful impulses over Hakufu's suffering. Kan-u's challenge prompted introspection about Hakufu's values, leading him to rejoin allies at the Battle of Red Cliffs.

Within the OVA continuity, including *Extravaganza Epoch* and its sequel *Western Wolves*, he participates in escalating conflicts involving Kyosho Academy and Kansai-region fighters.

Persistent traits include enduring loyalty toward Hakufu, occasional nosebleeds or distress reactions to intimate situations, and recovery from severe physical trauma, such as hospitalization following significant blood loss during a chaotic encounter at Kyosho Academy.
