Description
Gramps, alternately named Zenrus or Zenrai, holds the position of village chief in Elysia, a hidden sanctuary for the Seraphim. This supercentenarian elder of the Seraph race stands 120 cm tall, distinguished by his white hair featuring a lightning-bolt-shaped tuft tipped yellow. He typically wears seraphic robes over a blue vest decorated with yellow designs, stilt-like shoes, and carries a pipe. As a rare Lightning Seraph, he commands atmospheric elements and wields fire and wind seraphic artes. His domain actively maintains a protective barrier around Elysia, shielding it from external malevolence and preserving its idyllic nature.

Centuries before the present, humans worshipped him as the God of Thunder at the Mabinogio Ruins. He later rose to become Elysia's high-ranking elder. His life irrevocably changed during the Camlann massacre when he discovered a prematurely born human infant, Sorey, near his deceased mother. Defying objections from fellow Seraphim Caim and Maisen, Zenrus used a seraphic arte to revive Sorey. Soon after, the injured Muse approached him with her infant son, Mikleo, newly reborn as a Seraph. In exchange for Zenrus raising both children, Muse pledged to become a barrier sealing the malevolence emanating from Camlann. Honoring this oath, he brought Sorey and Mikleo to Elysia, raising them communally among the villagers.

As their adoptive guardian, he exhibited a stern yet deeply caring demeanor. He trained Sorey and Mikleo for their destined roles as Shepherd and Sub-Lord, deliberately isolating them from the outside world to shield them from its corruption. His cautious distrust of humans softened after witnessing Alisha Diphda’s kindness and open-mindedness during her accidental entry into Elysia. This experience led him to reconsider his biases, ultimately permitting Sorey to assist Alisha and later supporting Sorey’s decision to explore the human world. As a parting gift, he gave Sorey his pipe to fund the journey, symbolizing his acceptance of Sorey’s path.

During the confrontation with the Lord of Calamity, Heldalf, Zenrus left Elysia to stall Heldalf’s advance toward Camlann. This act breached Muse’s barrier, allowing malevolence to infiltrate Elysia. Heldalf captured and absorbed Zenrus, imprisoning him within his own body with his face visibly etched onto Heldalf’s left palm. When Sorey’s group confronted Heldalf, they faced an impossible choice: saving Zenrus would jeopardize purifying Maotelus. In a final act of defiance against Heldalf and mercy toward Zenrus, Sorey and Mikleo jointly struck him down. Zenrus met his end with a smile, expressing pride in their resolve and the strength of their bond.
