Description
"Tales of Zestiria: Dōshi no Yoake" is a two-episode anime adaptation that serves as a prequel to the events of the "Tales of Zestiria" video game. The story is set in the world of Glenwood, where humans and seraphim coexist, though most humans are unable to see or interact with seraphim. The narrative centers on Mikleo and Sorey, two childhood friends raised by the seraphim Zenrus in the isolated village of Elysia. Sorey, a human, and Mikleo, a seraph, share a deep bond and a fascination with ancient ruins and the history of their world.
The plot begins with Sorey and Mikleo venturing outside Elysia for the first time, driven by their curiosity about the outside world and the mysteries of the Celestial Record, an ancient text that holds the key to understanding the world's past. Their journey leads them to the town of Ladylake, where they encounter Alisha, a knight of the Hyland Kingdom, and Lailah, a seraph who becomes their guide. Alisha is investigating the malevolence plaguing the land, a corrupting force that turns humans and seraphim into monsters. Sorey, who possesses the rare ability to see and communicate with seraphim, is revealed to be the Shepherd, a legendary figure destined to purify the world of malevolence.
As Sorey embraces his role as the Shepherd, he and Mikleo face challenges that test their resolve and friendship. They confront the malevolence spreading across Glenwood, battling hellions—creatures born from corrupted humans and seraphim. Along the way, they uncover the truth about the Celestial Record and the ancient war between humans and seraphim, which shaped the current state of their world. The story explores themes of duty, sacrifice, and the bonds between humans and seraphim, as Sorey and Mikleo strive to bring balance to Glenwood.
The main characters include Sorey, an optimistic and determined young man with a strong sense of justice; Mikleo, a thoughtful and loyal seraph who supports Sorey on his journey; Alisha, a dedicated knight who seeks to protect her people; and Lailah, a wise and enigmatic seraph who guides the group. The series provides a foundation for the events of the "Tales of Zestiria" game, offering insight into the origins of Sorey's journey and the relationships that shape his destiny.
