Description
Shūji Ikutsuki holds dual roles as chairman of Gekkoukan High School's board and official advisor to the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad (SEES). He maintains a polished, courteous exterior marked by unflappable calm and a perpetual soft smile, punctuating interactions with deliberately poor puns he records in his reports regardless of context. This affable mask conceals calculated detachment from SEES members, forestalling genuine bonds. Though Persona-less, he navigates the Dark Hour consciously and serves as SEES's foremost authority on its mechanics and the Shadows, directing their missions. Covert surveillance gear in his dormitory office monitors SEES members, exposing his hidden scrutiny.

Ikutsuki partnered with Kouetsu Kirijo, Mitsuru Kirijo's grandfather, fully endorsing Kirijo's mission to instigate the Fall—an apocalypse where the entity Nyx eradicates humanity. A decade before the main events, he co-engineered unethical experiments at Gekkoukan High, kidnapping orphans to force Persona awakenings. These trials claimed most subjects' lives; only Jin Shirato, Takaya Sakaki, and Chidori Yoshino endured, later forming the antagonistic Strega. Survivors bore shortened lifespans, physical deterioration, and profound psychological wounds. Ikutsuki further manipulated SEES by altering a video message from Eiichiro Takeba, Yukari Takeba's father, falsifying it to claim destroying the twelve Arcana Shadows would halt the Dark Hour—contradicting the original warning that doing so would perpetuate it—to advance his scheme.

In *Persona 3 the Movie #3: Falling Down*, Ikutsuki enacts his betrayal after SEES conquers the twelfth Arcana Shadow. Amid celebrations atop Tartarus, he unveils his plan: eliminating the twelve Shadows fuses them into the thirteenth Arcana, Death, summoning Nyx to commence the Fall. He reprograms Aigis, SEES's android member, to seize and crucify the team while holding Takeharu Kirijo hostage at gunpoint. Declaring himself the "prince" who will orchestrate armageddon and rule the new world as a god, he cites humanity's corruption as his motive. When Takeharu breaks free and wounds him, Ikutsuki retaliates with a fatal shot. Aigis, resisting reprogramming through her bond with the protagonist, liberates SEES. Cornered and injured, Ikutsuki leaps from Tartarus's peak, dying with maniacal laughter over his near-victory. His betrayal directly births Death's manifestation as Ryoji Mochizuki and exacerbates psychological trauma within SEES, particularly for Mitsuru Kirijo following her father's death.

Ikutsuki's legacy extends to *Persona 4 Arena Ultimax*, where he adopted orphan Sho Minazuki. He subjected Sho to brutal experiments, including implanting a Plume of Dusk to force a Persona awakening. This fractured Sho's psyche, creating a violent alternate persona, Minazuki, who attacked Ikutsuki for endangering Sho. Ikutsuki's attempt to erase Minazuki induced Sho's coma; he then abandoned Sho at a hospital, funding indefinite care. This past fuels Sho's role in *Arena Ultimax*, where illusions of Ikutsuki haunt SEES members. Sho also replicates Ikutsuki's habit of delivering unfunny puns, reflecting his enduring influence.

The character 月 ("tsuki," meaning "moon") in Ikutsuki's name binds him to Persona 3's lunar motifs, like the full moon appearances of Arcana Shadows and the moon deity Tsukiyomi. This contrasts his nihilistic creed: he brands global annihilation salvation while coveting godhood in the new world. His identity as a "manipulative, nihilistic, and omnicidal maniac with a twisted savior complex" defines him as a pure antagonist whose impact persists beyond his death.
