Description
Hina Yumihara arrives in 2014 as a transfer student to Seio High School, becoming Aoba Watase’s reserved classmate masking her true role: a Valiancer pilot from 2088 assigned to shield him from a future assassin. She intercepts the attack in her mecha, defeats the assailant, and thrusts Aoba through a time vortex to 2088 before vanishing.

By 2088, she serves as Ensign Hina Ryazan under Alfried Gallant in Zogilia’s military. Found amnesiac on a battlefield as a child, she was adopted by Lieutenant Commander Viktor Ryazan, enrolled at Zogilia’s Military Preparatory Academy at ten, and later stationed at Lipetsk Base before joining Gallant’s unit. Loyal to Zogilia, she pilots Valiancers Fortuna and Karura. When encountering Aoba in this era, she fails to recognize him, treats him as an enemy, and reacts with hostility to his claims of their past. Her confusion prompts Zogilian agent Margaret O’Keefe to detain her for suspected treason until Gallant intervenes.

Her demeanor diverges sharply between eras. In 2014, she exhibits shyness and quiet affection for Aoba while resolutely guarding him. In 2088 pre-memory loss, she displays fierce patriotism, aggression toward the Free Pact Alliance, and bonds with fellow pilots Bizon Gerafil, Lasha, and Tarjim. Post-detainment, she blames Aoba, fixates on defeating him, and disobeys retreat orders during a storm—crashing them onto a deserted island. Stranded, Aoba rescues her from drowning and returns a pink cat-shaped hairpin he recovered earlier. She initially denies being "his Hina" at gunpoint, but their survival ordeal begins thawing her hostility.

Viktor Ryazan’s deathbed confession reveals he discovered her as a war orphan in clothes matching her 2014 disappearance, triggering identity confusion and depression. Zogilian scientist Wilhelm Hahn then forces an experimental injection on her, brainwashing her into an emotionless weapon fixated on killing Aoba to avenge Viktor. During battle, Aoba risks decoupling his Valiancer to physically and emotionally reach her, shattering the brainwashing and restoring her memories—including a suppressed time loop.

The loop’s structure unravels: originally a Coupling System test subject in her native timeline, she traveled to 2088, then back to 2014 to protect Aoba. Their escape to 2088 through a vortex separated them; de-aged and stranded a decade early with only her name remembered, Viktor adopted her. This cycle would repeat to stop Bizon’s assassination until Aoba breaks it by averting both her vortex entry and the attack.

Post-loop, she returns to her original Coupling test timeline with memories from all eras. A final encounter with Aoba in his native time echoes their first meeting, hinting at renewed connection. Her pink cat hairpin, won at a festival in her original life, anchors this continuity.
