Description
Shinku Izumi, alias Cinque Izumi, is a 13-year-old half-Japanese, half-British youth of Celtic and English heritage hailing from Cornwall. Before his summoning to the alternate world of Flonyard, he studied as a first-year middle schooler at Japan's Kinokawa International School. His life centered on athletic excellence, especially in Iron Athletics competitions where he achieved runner-up status, constantly challenged by his cousin Nanami Takatsuki, who consistently bested him.
He possesses indigo eyes, bright blonde hair, and fair skin, frequently smiling or frowning in concentration. In Flonyard, his battle attire includes a white-and-dark-gray jacket, an all-white cape with red lining, black pants, a blue head ribbon, red bandages on one arm, and a metal glove on the other, completed by gray, black, and red boots. His school uniform is a white button-up shirt, dark gray pants, and sneakers.
Cheerful, straightforward, and self-paced, Shinku often displays naivete, particularly regarding romance, initially mistaking females for males—a trait that lessens over time. His high athleticism and acrobatic skills fuel his passion for sports and physical challenges, seamlessly translating to Flonyard's non-lethal, sport-like combat system designed to avoid casualties.
Summoned by Princess Millhiore Firianno Biscotti to defend the Biscotti Republic against the Galette Lion Dominion as her "Hero," Shinku initially remains unaware he cannot immediately return to Earth. Biscotti researchers seek a solution, and he agrees to serve for 16 days to honor a promise to childhood friend Rebecca Anderson for a flower-viewing event. After returning to Earth, specific conditions trigger repeated summons back to Flonyard, eventually bringing Rebecca and Nanami. Nanami becomes Galette's hero, while Rebecca serves the Principality of Pastillage.
Shinku wields Biscotti’s divine treasure sword, the Palladion, which adapts to his preferences. It typically manifests as a staff but transforms into dual spears, a jet-propelled hoverboard ("Tornader"), a large shield ("Defender"), or a frisbee. The Palladion enables fire-attributed Emblem Arts like the energy blast "Skycracking Cross." Later, a Hero Crystal from Adelaide Grand Marnier grants temporary adult transformation with enhanced flame abilities, facilitating advanced techniques such as the "Infernal Fire Emblem" cannon and combined attacks like the "Infernal-Neptune Twin God Fist" with Nanami.
Relationships drive his development. Mutual romantic feelings blossom with Millhiore, leading to confessions during his departures. Rebecca also confesses her love, though Shinku interprets such affections platonically. He defers romantic pursuits, prioritizing defeating Nanami in official competitions first. His dynamic with Biscotti’s knight captain, Éclair Martinozzi, involves frequent clashes over his carefree nature, evolving into a Back-to-Back Badasses rapport in battle. A Season 2 accidental kiss with Éclair adds romantic ambiguity.
Shinku matures across the series. Initially motivated by athletic curiosity and protection, he grows into a strategic, responsible hero confronting prophecies of doom and large-scale threats. Prioritizing Flonyard’s safety and his friends’ well-being, his commitment to defeating Nanami reflects a shift toward long-term goals over immediate romance, marking his evolution from a naive adolescent to a focused protector.
