Description
Kiyotaka Yagashira, nicknamed "Holmes," is a central character. This 22-year-old Kyoto University graduate student works as an appraiser at his family's Kyoto antique shop, Kura, located in the Teramachi Sanjou shopping district. His grandfather, Seiji Yagashira, owns Kura and mentors him, while his father, Takeshi Yagashira, manages the shop but delegates daily operations to Kiyotaka. The nickname "Holmes" stems from a pun on his surname "Yagashira" ("home" and "head"), which he initially found ridiculous.

Kiyotaka possesses exceptional observational and deductive abilities, enabling him to discern minute details about people and objects. He can uncover lies or hidden truths, such as deducing a stranger's hometown, school grade, and personal circumstances upon meeting them. However, he typically keeps such assessments to himself unless necessary to protect someone or formally requested during an appraisal, a restraint born from sensitivity to people's inner temperaments. He displays a sharper, critical side—termed his "trademark nastiness" by coworker Aoi Mashiro—when confronting sellers of counterfeit antiques or individuals he perceives as arrogant or deceitful. His aversion to "arrogant overbearing playboys" relates to a past, emotionally messy romantic relationship with his ex-girlfriend Izumi. This experience initially colors his interactions with characters like Akihito Kajiwara, though he later revises his opinion upon recognizing their complexity.

Despite his perceptiveness professionally and socially, Kiyotaka struggles with personal emotions and romantic relationships. He admits to being "completely hopeless" in romance, often unable to objectively judge his own feelings or make decisive choices about new relationships. He recounts that his relationship with Izumi began primarily from flattery at her attention and a desire to experience being in a relationship, rather than deep affection. This inexperience fuels his ongoing hesitation about pursuing new romantic connections, though he expresses interest. He also hints at unresolved emotional conflicts when introspecting, describing encounters with answers he "cannot fully grasp."

Trained by his grandfather in antique appraisal, Kiyotaka developed a reputation for identifying forgeries and uncovering artifacts' histories. His approach intertwines object analysis with understanding human motivations, connecting an antique's story to a client's personal struggles. He occasionally collaborates with Aoi Mashiro, whom he hires after discerning her intuitive talent for recognizing genuine antiques and her personal circumstances. Their partnership evolves through solving cases involving disputed heirlooms, forged artworks, and concealed family legacies, showcasing Kiyotaka's expertise and evolving ability to navigate interpersonal trust.

Additional details include his birthday on Valentine's Day and the meanings of his name: "Kiyotaka" combines "清" (clear, pure) and "貴" (valuable), while "Yagashira" uses "家" (house/home) and "頭" (head).
