Description
Nanami Knight Bladefield, the thirteenth princess of the European principality of Bladefield, first meets Souta Hatate when he prevents a truck accident. Intrigued by his habit of observing people's heads before interaction, she confronts him on the school rooftop. This encounter reveals her unique status as the first individual confirmed devoid of visible "flags," rendering Souta unable to predict or influence her future actions.
She possesses knee-length blonde hair tied in a ponytail with a black ribbon, featuring a distinctive green braid on the left side, and sky-blue eyes. Standing 150 cm tall, Nanami typically wears her school uniform or formal attire. Her personality is serious and easily irritated, often acting as the straight man in comedic scenarios. Despite this stern exterior, she displays kindness and encourages Souta to build friendships. She harbors insecurity regarding her flat chest compared to peers like Akane Mahougasawa. Nanami speaks using antiquated classical Japanese, reflecting her royal heritage.
Sent to Japan for studies due to limited acceptance within her large royal family (10 princes and 14 princesses), Nanami shares Japanese heritage through her mother, as do her half-siblings Souta and Hakua Berserker Bladefield. Her relationship with the fourteenth princess, Hakua, remains formal, marked by the use of titles over names. Later, she assumes the role of "princess knight" within Souta's destined party alongside the magician (Akane), cleric, and shinobi.
Significant development occurs when Souta erases all memories of himself. Nanami alone retains full recollection, discovering others' memory loss during graduation preparations. Investigating Souta's room, she finds a letter in her own handwriting, disrupting his protective mental barrier. This leads to the revelation that half her consciousness was imprisoned in Bladefield after the Premium Ambriel cruise ship incident. Having escaped and hidden within android Ruri Ninjabayashi, she reunites with her other self upon learning the truth: she is Souta's biological older sister, separated during the ship disaster.
Later, Nanami coordinates the Quest Dorm residents to rescue Souta from his death flag crisis, arriving aboard a vessel resembling the Premium Ambriel to collectively dismantle the death flags threatening him. During a Christmas OVA incident, she accompanies idol Serika Gin'yūin on a date with Souta as protection. When Serika discovers Souta is the "Purple Flagman" who inspired her career, Nanami attempts to downplay the connection but ultimately supports their reconciliation. Her knowledge of Bladefield's founding fairy tale proves crucial when she verifies its historical accuracy, recognizing Souta's inherited supernatural abilities as part of their lineage's legacy.
