TV-Series
Description
Hikawa Iona, alias Cure Fortune, anchors the narrative as a second-year student at Pikarigaoka Middle School, distinct from classmates Megumi Aino, Hime Shirayuki, and Yuko Omori. Her family runs the Hikawa Karate Dojo, where she trains rigorously under her grandfather. The Phantom Empire commander Phantom's capture of her older sister Maria Hikawa—formerly Cure Tender—ignites Iona's driving purpose.
**Appearance**
Civilian Iona sports long dark purple hair with tented bangs and matching eyes. Summer outfits pair light purple-pink tops with light blue pockets, white layered skirts, and purple boots; winter swaps in a purple jacket over a lighter shirt, grey shorts, and white boots. As Cure Fortune, her hair brightens to lavender in a high ponytail with thin forelocks, accented by gold star earrings and a pale lilac bow with a violet heart clip. Her Cure ensemble layers a white ruffled shirt under a dark navy vest with gold details and lilac collar, plus a skirt with an extended back panel. White thigh boots bear gold hearts on lavender bows. She later obtains a ring summoning the Fortune Tambourine.
Alternate forms comprise:
- **Pine Arabian**: Mint and emerald garments with gold crescent motifs and an emerald-adorned hair cone.
- **Anmitsu Komachi**: Pearl blue sakura-patterned kimono with mauve ribbons and traditional geta sandals.
- **Innocent Form**: Lilac knee-length hair, a white ribbon with gold heart, and a four-paneled pastel skirt featuring wing-like frills.
**Personality and Development**
Initially cold, aloof, and fiercely independent, Iona channels trauma from her sister's capture into solitary vengeance. She wields exceptional combat skills and rigid justice but rejects teamwork—especially with Cure Princess (Hime), whom she blames for unleashing the Phantom Empire via the Axia box. Perfectionism and self-reliance mask suppressed laughter and compassion.
After Phantom defeats her and strips her powers, she confronts her misplaced hatred toward Hime. When Hime donates PreCards to restore her abilities, Iona reconciles with her, forging a sisterly bond where she adopts a protective role. This transforms her from a lone antagonist to a collaborative teammate. Though retaining seriousness, she grows open, supportive, and expressive of warmth.
**Relationships**
- **Maria Hikawa (Cure Tender)**: Maria's capture by Phantom fuels Iona's resolve. When Maria reappears brainwashed under Queen Mirage, Iona frees her via Innocent Purification. Iona accepts Maria's subsequent departure to America.
- **Hime Shirayuki (Cure Princess)**: Early hostility over the Axia incident shifts when Hime's PreCard gift enables reconciliation. They bond through shopping and battles, establishing a close kinship.
- **Megumi Aino (Cure Lovely)**: Iona initially exploits Megumi's power against Phantom but softens through her kindness, evolving into friendship.
- **Glasan**: Maria's former fairy partner becomes Iona's steadfast ally despite her stubbornness.
- **Kaidou Yuuya**: Mutual romantic tension peaks during an awkward date interrupted by Phantom's general Namakelder. Iona's desperation to protect Yuuya awakens her Innocent Form. They agree to build understanding before romance, defying Blue's rule.
**Key Events**
Iona inherits Maria's PreChanMirror, partners with Glasan, and debuts as Cure Fortune by rescuing Cure Princess from a Saiark—immediately condemning Hime's timidity. She repeatedly aids the Cures while spurning alliances with Hime.
A solo assault on Phantom fails, forcing her to accept Megumi's help. Later, she publicly reveals her Cure identity, recruiting Megumi and Yuko (Cure Honey) while excluding Hime. She exposes Hime's role in opening Axia, prompting Hime's flight. Phantom defeats Iona, revealing her own past actions caused Maria's capture. Restored by Hime's PreCards, Iona apologizes and joins the HappinessCharge team permanently.
Subsequent milestones include a bonding trip with Hime featuring joint combat against Saiarks, and the date with Yuuya that unlocks her Innocent Form. She fights in the final battle against Queen Mirage and the Phantom Empire, deploying her full abilities alongside teammates. After freeing Maria from brainwashing, Iona respects her decision to leave for America.
