Description
Koichiro Iketani spearheads the Akina SpeedStars, a local street racing team on Mount Akina. He works at an Esso gas station in Shibukawa alongside Takumi Fujiwara and Itsuki Takeuchi, supervising the younger staff. His Nissan Silvia S13 serves as his primary racing machine, marking him as the SpeedStars' top driver, though his skills remain average against rival teams.

Initially convinced of his team's dominance on Akina, Iketani's view shifts when his boss, Yuichi Tachibana, reveals a legendary tofu delivery driver once held the mountain's fastest time in a Toyota AE86 Trueno. Skeptical, Iketani investigates Bunta Fujiwara's shop but dismisses the aged AE86. When the Akagi RedSuns, led by Keisuke Takahashi, challenge the SpeedStars, Iketani witnesses their superior performance during practice. Desperate to avoid humiliation, he pleads with Bunta to race for them. After Bunta refuses, Iketani crashes during solo practice, sustaining minor injuries and damaging his Silvia.

With the SpeedStars lacking a competitive driver, Bunta unexpectedly sends his son, Takumi, in the AE86. Iketani is stunned to discover Takumi is the mystery driver who previously defeated Keisuke. Recognizing Takumi's talent, Iketani overrides team objections and designates him as the SpeedStars' representative. Takumi's subsequent victory cements the AE86's legendary status.

Post-victory, Iketani assists Takumi by explaining racing terms like "AE86" and later helps install a tachometer and remove the engine seal during the AE86's upgrade. He exhibits mentorship qualities, attempting to teach Takumi concepts like drifting, though Takumi's natural aptitude often exceeds conventional instruction.

Personally, Iketani lives with his parents and enjoys car discussions with Yuichi and his best friend Kenji. He develops feelings for Mako Sato after finding her stranded with car trouble. Though a misunderstanding initially strains their connection, they later reconcile and acknowledge mutual interest.

Decades later, as shown in the sequel *MF Ghost*, Iketani advances to gas station manager. He remains unmarried and experiences balding, contrasting his earlier passionate SpeedStars leadership. His colleague Kenji notes he occasionally discusses the MFG racing series, maintaining a tangential link to the automotive world.
