Description
Mai Mishou, operating as both Cure Egret and Cure Windy, stands as a central figure in the Pretty Cure franchise. Her journey begins upon transferring into Yuunagi Middle School's second year, where she reunites with childhood friend Hyuuga Saki. Their initial meeting five years prior involved mysterious lights later revealed as the fairies Flappy and Choppy. This reunion coincides with an attack by the Dark Fall minion Karehan, prompting Mai and Saki to transform into Cure Egret and Cure Bloom to defend their world.

Residing in an observatory reflecting her parents' scientific careers—her father an astronomer, her mother an archaeologist—Mai's brother dreams of becoming an astronaut. Despite this scientific environment, Mai possesses a strong artistic passion, particularly for drawing. She frequently sketches subjects of personal significance, drawing inspiration from joyful events around her. Academically diligent and observant, she notices subtle details others might miss, contributing to her calm and serene demeanor.

Transformed by the fairy Choppy, Cure Egret embodies "the radiant silvery wing," wielding avian-based powers symbolizing the sky. Her form features a cream mini-dress with feather-like frills, teal heart accessories, and wing motifs. Following injuries to the fairies during a rescue mission, Mai gains an upgraded form: Cure Windy, representing "the scented wind across the Earth." This form harnesses wind-based abilities granted by the wind spirit Foop, showcased in pale cyan and lavender attire with translucent sleeves and distinct symbols. Both forms grant flight, enable energy barriers, and execute collaborative attacks with Saki's Cure forms, including the Twin Stream Splash and later the Spiral Heart Splash Star. Mai can freely switch between Cure Egret and Cure Windy after their introduction.

Her relationships deeply shape her path. She shares an unbreakable bond with her Pretty Cure partner Saki, navigating disagreements with mutual resolve. Her fairy partner Choppy offers constant support and encouragement during challenges. Mai also befriends Michiru and Kaoru, later discovering their ties to the antagonistic Dark Fall. Despite this revelation, she and Saki strive to protect them, ultimately aiding their redemption.

In the sequel *Kibou no Chikara ~Otona Pretty Cure '23~*, Mai appears as an adult working as a graphic designer at a major advertising agency. Her personal life includes navigating a romantic relationship that ends in a mutual breakup, prompting initial self-doubt before reinforcing her independence. She reunites with Saki and former allies to combat new threats, temporarily resuming her Cure duties despite awareness of the risks. During this period, she supports Saki through personal struggles and engages in pivotal battles against remnants of Dark Fall.

Symbolism defines her character: her name translates to "beautiful flying dance," aligning with her sky and wind motifs. Official merchandise associates her with the lily of the valley, representing happiness and delicate grace. Notable trivia includes her status as the first Pretty Cure to relocate from another town and among the earliest to have an older brother. She carries her artistic passion into adulthood, her graphic design career reflecting her lifelong dedication to drawing.
