Description
Noboru Kodo is a recurring character, initially introduced as a classmate of Gao Mikado at Aibo Academy and consistently ranked second among the elementary division's sixth-year Buddyfighters. His appearance features yellow hair with black tiger stripes and yellow eyes, complemented by distinct tiger-themed attire. In earlier seasons, his attire consists of a pale yellow shirt with a black tiger symbol, a blue open jacket, dark orange shorts, and blue sneakers, always wearing a tiger-striped sweatband. His outfit later changes to a white t-shirt with a golden tiger symbol, a sleeveless blue vest, a red scarf, light grey trousers, and blue loafers, while retaining the sweatband.

Personality-wise, Noboru begins as arrogant and hot-tempered, dismissive of Gao's Buddyfighting skills and quick to attribute Gao's successes to luck. He is easily annoyed, particularly by Samuel Nakaoka's references to the tiger motif on his clothing as a "kitten." Underneath this bravado, he struggles with self-doubt and feelings of inadequacy, believing he lacks special qualities. His character evolves through interactions with his Buddy monster, Dragon Knight, El Quixote, who helps him develop genuine confidence and courage. After a permanent gender change caused by accidental ingestion of a Gender-Change Pillball in Triple D, his dynamic with Samuel shifts, often resulting in comedic retaliation when harassed.

Noboru's background includes moving to the USA with his family at the end of Season 1, temporarily departing Japan and his friends. He later returns to participate in tournaments like the Gaen Cup as part of Team Destiny. During Hundred, he is brainwashed by Gratos of the Hundred Demons, serving as the Inverse Fiend for Miserea under the alias "Tiger" and switching to a Dungeon World Knight deck. After being freed, he continues using this deck before later adopting an Omni Lord Knights deck in X. His parents eventually return to Japan, allowing him to rejoin Aibo Academy.

Key story arcs encompass his early rivalry with Gao; losses to opponents like Tetsuya Kurodake that prompt humility; and victories against figures like Magoroku Shido in the ABC Cup after rejecting bribery attempts. In Triple D, a temporary gender transformation occurs due to a mistaken women's workout regimen, resolving by the episode's end. His Buddyfighting record spans multiple seasons, featuring notable wins against Genma Todoroki and James Knightman, and losses to antagonists like Sakate Onigashira and Kyoya Gaen.

Noboru's primary Buddy is Dragon Knight, El Quixote, after initially partnering with Dragon Knight, Red Baron. His gameplay centers on Dragon World decks early on, emphasizing Dragon Knights, using a lance as his Core Gadget and chest armor as his Buddy Skill. After brainwashing, he switches to a Dungeon World deck focused on Knight attributes, enabling dual-wielding lances. In X, he adopts an Omni Lord Knights deck. His strategies involve balancing offense with gauge management, though early overconfidence in gauge expenditure leads to defeats.

Relationships define much of his development: his rivalry with Gao evolves into mutual respect; his bond with El Quixote fosters personal growth; and his interactions with Samuel Nakaoka range from antagonistic to comically volatile post-gender change. He maintains friendships with Raita Niitani and Kakumo Maihama during team tournaments.

Throughout the series, Noboru transitions from an insecure rival to a resilient fighter, navigating challenges like brainwashing, temporary gender shifts, and familial relocations while maintaining his core identity and relationships.
