Description
Baku Omori is a 6th-year elementary student at Aibo Academy, sharing classes with Gao Mikado and his childhood friend, Kuguru Uki. As Team Balle du Soleil's primary deck-builder, he crafts and refines card decks for Gao and occasionally other fighters like Tetsuya Kurodake. His deck-building philosophy centers on the fighter's personal preferences and playstyle, ensuring effectiveness without stifling individual expression—a direct rejection of the controlling methods espoused by his former mentor and cousin, Retsu Omori.
He possesses a friendly, easygoing, and selfless nature, readily helping others with deck construction in exchange for small kindnesses. A constant, intense hunger defines him, frequently impairing his focus and leading to comedic situations where food takes precedence, exemplified by his declaration that he'd "choose lunch over love any day." Despite frequent arguments with Gao over deck adjustments, they share a close bond. His interactions with Kuguru involve mutual denials of romantic feelings, though moments of concern—like her worry when he faints—and shared embarrassment during a Link Attack incident hint at deeper affection.
His development revolves around his fractured relationship with Retsu, initially idolized as his deck-building teacher. This admiration shatters when Retsu, now Gremlin, joins the antagonistic Disaster group and advocates using decks to dominate fighters, an ideology Baku firmly rejects. Gremlin manipulates him during critical battles, exploiting his trust to plant doubts—claiming Jackknife Dragon would unbalance Gao's deck or declaring solutions against Distortion Punisher impossible. Baku overcomes this manipulation, recognizing subtle clues in Gremlin's taunts. He devises counterstrategies, like activating Roaring Slash!! Gargantua Punisher!! to trigger Distortion Punisher!!, supporting Gao to victory and ultimately rejecting Gremlin's influence to affirm his own principles.
Beyond this conflict, he consistently refines Gao's decks across tournaments, creating multiple decks for Drum Bunker Dragon's evolved forms and an enhanced "Explosive Fang Dragon" deck for Gao's match against Kyoya Gaen. His dedication persists through subsequent seasons, collaborating on Impact card names and supporting Gao's ongoing development.
