TV-Series
Description
Magoroku Shido excels academically at Aibo Academy while serving as middle school student council president. He operates within the organization Disaster, committed to reshaping the world under adult authority. Shido initially conceals his true allegiance, presenting two deceptive decks: a Danger World deck featuring buddy Garg and high-power monsters like Armorknight Ogre and Emperor Dragon, Gael Khan, and an Ancient World deck with buddy Adelaide centered on summoning Dimensional Demonic Dragon, Ladis the Tyrant. His authentic deck originates from Darkness Dragon World, utilizing Death Ruler, Gallows as his buddy. This deck specializes in the 《Death》 attribute and "Shadow Dive" abilities, enabling direct player attacks by bypassing center monsters. Key cards include the Impact "Nightmare Despair" to manipulate an opponent's center monster against its owner, alongside later additions like "Gate Guider" monsters, DEATH Wave Rod, Sterben for repositioning, and the Impact "Hell Gate Walter!" for extra attack phases.
Shido's personality blends intellectual arrogance with profound insecurity. He consistently belittles opponents, especially elementary school Buddyfighters, dismissing their victories as mere luck. He exhibits a compulsive need for control and superiority, refusing to acknowledge personal failures and blaming others for defeats. This fragility surfaces in emotional outbursts, including crying after reporting a tournament loss to his father. Overconfidence leads to strategic miscalculations, such as declaring premature one-turn-kill attempts that result in humiliation. When pressured or confronted, he displays cowardice, cowering under threats or when situations deviate from his plans. In Season 2, he demonstrates unhealthy loyalty to Ikazuchi, enduring abuse and threats of consumption while continuing to serve him.
During Season 2, Shido becomes "Death Shido" after fusing with Gallows, adopting a skull-helmeted form with purple armor and a red cape. This fusion later evolves into "Des Shido," characterized by red armor and smaller horns. In this role, he abandons his personal deck, utilizing various "Hundred Demons" decks aligned with different worlds (e.g., Hundred Ancient Warriors, Hundred Dragon, Hundred Darkness). He summons these demons via the incantation: "Awaken! Power of Darkness! Power of Evil!! Power of the Hundred Demons!!!" For his final Season 2 battle, he reverts to his Darkness Dragon World deck, now enhanced with new cards supporting the "Shadow Dive" strategy. By Season 4, he employs a "Marionette Death" deck.
His core gadget initially features a red star design, later replaced by a black Dark Core after openly joining Disaster. He shares a significant bond with his original buddy monster, Gallows, defined by Shido's instrumental use of power. Shido's sanctioned Buddyfight record shows numerous losses against protagonists like Gao Mikado, Tetsuya Kurodake, and Genma Todoroki, with a rare victory against Gratos during the Hundred Demons arc.
