Description
Ash's Oshawott began as a starter Pokémon in Professor Juniper’s Unova lab. Overlooked by trainer Trip in favor of Snivy, it trailed Ash covertly before proving its worth by rescuing Pikachu and Axew from Team Rocket, securing Ash’s official ownership.

Exhibiting a cheerful, energetic personality with intense attention-seeking tendencies, Oshawott initially clashed with Pikachu and rivaled Ash’s other Unova starters. It habitually released itself from its Poké Ball uncommanded, interrupting battles or crises to participate. A distinct quirk left it immobilized and fainting when overlooked for combat.

Romantic pursuits defined much of its behavior, as it frequently developed infatuations with female Pokémon like Sylveon during an Eevee House sleepover. These advances typically ended in comedic rejections or physical repercussions, such as Jolteon’s electrocution. Rejection intensified after losing Osharina’s favor during the Scalchop King tournament, where a broken scallsword voided its victory. Oshawott also rivaled Dawn’s Piplup for Meloetta’s affection, though mutual respect eventually emerged.

In battle, Oshawott employed Water Gun, Razor Shell, Tackle, Hydro Pump, and Aqua Jet. Mastering Aqua Jet required conquering its fear of opening eyes underwater during a critical Palpitoad encounter. Notable victories included defeating Clay’s Krokorok in a gym battle and Stephan’s Blitzle in the Unova League. However, it suffered defeats against Bianca’s father’s Darmanitan (despite type advantage) and Chili’s Pansear (despite super-effective moves). Its scallsword held profound personal value; damage or loss triggered distress and impaired combat effectiveness.

Post-Unova, Oshawott resided at Professor Oak’s lab. It appeared during Ash’s visits, joined training sessions like aiding Sirfetch’d, and witnessed Ash’s Masters Eight Tournament matches—manifesting in a vision to motivate Pikachu against Leon. Later, it temporarily rejoined Ash’s party to reunite with Brock and Misty.
