TV-Series
Description
Gammon Sakanoue, a Root Academy freshman, sports spiky red hair with two distinct front strands and piercing gray eyes. His signature leather jacket and pants cultivate a delinquent image, often seen riding his motorcycle. He holds the Solver title "Galileo," tackling puzzles primarily for the money needed to support himself and his younger sister, Miharu Sakanoue, in their parents' absence. Secretly, he writes puzzles for magazines under the alias "Chidousetsu."

Fiercely competitive, Gammon maintains a heated rivalry with Kaito Daimon, derisively nicknaming him "Bakaito" or "Freakaito," matching Kaito's own hot temper. Beneath his abrasive exterior, he shows deep care for Miharu, regularly preparing her meals due to her inability to cook. He also harbors unrequited feelings for Nonoha Itou, participating in a cross-dressing contest to capture her attention.

Gammon's puzzle-solving skills are exceptional, marking him as a top candidate for developing a full Phi Brain. He operates effectively as both Solver and Giver, spotting solutions others miss—like recognizing Kaito wasn't at fault during a Freecell confrontation and improvising a response. However, he typically performs below Kaito's level when Kaito activates the Orpheus Bangle's power.

Following Rook Banjou Crossfield's manipulation to isolate Kaito, Gammon struggles with Kaito's superiority. When POG uncovers his identity as "Chidousetsu," they recruit him. Passing Bishop's test, he aligns with Rook to pursue the "Puzzle of God." This triggers a drastic shift: his rivalry curdles into apparent hatred. He actively obstructs Kaito from solving the ultimate puzzle, seeking to prove his own superiority as both Solver and Giver. He engineers a deadly puzzle confrontation intending to crush Kaito, though his true motives remain ambiguous to skeptical POG leaders.

In the final conflict, Gammon joins Rook's plan to thwart Orpheus. He fakes his death alongside Freecell to evade Orpheus's detection, rescue allies, and activate a device halting Orpheus's control over Kaito. The plan succeeds, realigning him with Kaito's group.

His surname "Sakanoue" derives from Japanese characters meaning "inverted, this, above," while his given name "Gammon" references the board game Backgammon.
