Description
Free Cell emerges as an antagonist driven by a personal vendetta against Kaito Daimon, fueled by a tragic past incident. His mother developed a fatal illness following her broken heart, an event indirectly connected to the death of Kaito's parents during a dangerous puzzle. This link ignites Free Cell's hostility, as he blames Kaito for his mother's suffering and death. Their initial clash sees Free Cell challenge Kaito with deadly puzzle traps, referencing a "forgotten promise" Kaito fails to recall.

Consumed by resentment, Free Cell allies with the Orpheus Order, acquiring a replica Orpheus Ring. The artifact amplifies his negativity, triggering increasingly erratic and destructive conduct. His actions include creating the "Fool's Puzzle," which accidentally caused the death of Melancholy's uncle, forging her intense fear and hatred of him. The ring's corruption culminates in a mental breakdown marked by obsessive rage and near-total loss of reason.

After his replica ring shatters, Free Cell experiences profound change. Freed from its influence, he confronts the consequences of his deeds, expressing remorse, particularly to Melancholy. He actively pursues redemption, striving to reconcile with her and reignite her lost passion for puzzles. This shift manifests when he pleads with her to stop burning puzzles and later collaborates with Kaito to craft a crossword puzzle for her, signaling his yearning for connection and forgiveness.

During the third season, Free Cell transforms into a dependable ally for Kaito's group, aiding them against threats like Enigma. Past trauma resurfaces when Melancholy, now a Master Brain under Enigma, traps him in a lethal puzzle seeking vengeance. Within this trial, he openly confesses his guilt and voices a sincere desire to atone. Though Melancholy initially rejects friendship, subtle signs of healing emerge, highlighted when she later recalls him fondly in her sleep.

Free Cell's journey concludes with his complete integration into Kaito's team. He participates in vital missions, including efforts to thwart Orpheus's schemes. His arc depicts a full evolution from a vengeance-fueled foe into a cooperative and trusted comrade, underscoring themes of redemption and transcending past grievances.
