Plue exists across two distinct fictional universes created by Hiro Mashima. Within the Rave Master continuity, he manifests as a small, white, snowman-like creature, often mistaken for a dog due to his four-legged movement and monosyllabic vocalizations primarily sounding like "puun". His most distinctive feature is a hard, carrot-shaped nose that deflates when hungry or overheated. Measuring approximately 40 centimeters tall and weighing 2.6 kilograms, he possesses black eyes and a petite tail.
Originating in the Kingdom of Symphonia, Plue served as a companion to Resha Valentine before becoming the intrinsic Rave Bearer linked to the Rave Stones. Following Resha's presumed death, he partnered with Shiba Roses during the war against the Dark Bring. During the catastrophic Overdrive event, Plue shielded Shiba from the explosion, resulting in the shattering of the Rave Stone and Plue being scattered. He later washed ashore on a remote island, encountered Griffon Kato, and aided against the "Pudding Army" before drifting at sea. Discovered by Haru Glory, Plue became Haru's companion. His unique detection ability proved instrumental in locating scattered Rave Stones, and his nose possesses the capability to destroy Dark Brings.
Fifty years post-Overdrive, Plue became a core member of Haru's group, journeying with him, Elie, and others. He demonstrates unwavering loyalty, frequently risking himself to protect allies. Generally gentle and easily distracted by simple pleasures like chasing insects or eating candy—especially lollipops—he nonetheless displays surprising courage in conflicts.
In the Fairy Tail universe, Plue exists as a separate entity: Lucy Heartfilia's Silver Celestial Spirit, contracted under the celestial name "Nikora" or "Canis Minor", summoned with a Silver Key. This version physically resembles his Rave Master counterpart but serves primarily as a non-combatant pet. He shares similar traits, enjoying sweets and communicating through sounds like "puu-puun", but lacks Rave-related abilities or history.
The "Fairy Tail x Rave" crossover OVA explicitly acknowledges this dimensional duality, featuring both versions coexisting. Rave Master Plue travels with Elie and Haru Glory, while Lucy Heartfilia summons her Celestial Spirit Plue. This causes a moment of confusion between Elie and Lucy upon realizing both creatures share the name "Plue". Throughout the OVA, the Rave Master Plue participates in the group's activities, including battling the mechanized threat Jackpot 2.0 controlled by Klodoa. He is observed enjoying chaotic situations, such as watching Erza Scarlet discipline Haru and Natsu Dragneel. The story concludes with the Fairy Tail and Rave Master characters parting amicably.
Plue's background, role, and nature are therefore context-dependent on the universe. His Rave Master incarnation is a vital, magical being central to the Rave Stone quest, while his Fairy Tail incarnation is a summoned spirit fulfilling a different role within Celestial Spirit magic. The crossover consciously juxtaposes these two separate existences.
