Description
Asemu Asuno, son of Flit and Emily Asuno, was born in 123 A.G. amidst the Earth Federation's conflict with the Martian Vagan forces. Demonstrating early talent for mobile suit design and piloting, he joined his school's Mobile Suit Club. He inherited the AGE Device from his father on his 17th birthday, marking his duty to protect against Vagan threats.
Growing up in Tordia colony, Asemu forged a close bond with Romary Stone and a transfer student later exposed as the Vagan infiltrator, Zeheart Galette. When Vagans attacked Tordia, Asemu piloted the hidden family mobile suit, the AGE-1 Gundam AGE-1 Normal, successfully defending the colony despite his inexperience and entering the war. Zeheart's true allegiance was revealed during a graduation ceremony battle, prompting Asemu to enlist in the Earth Federation Forces.
Assigned to the battleship Diva, Asemu piloted the new AGE-2 Gundam AGE-2 Normal under veteran Woolf Enneacle. He grappled with lacking the innate X-Rounder psychic abilities his father and Zeheart possessed, leading to feelings of inadequacy. After failing an X-Rounder aptitude test, he dedicated himself to honing his piloting skills through intensive simulator training at Madorna's Workshop. His combat style evolved, emphasizing close-quarters combat and tactical adaptability, often using dual-wielded beam sabers. The AGE-2 Double Bullet Wear part enhanced his multi-target engagement capability. During the Battle of Nortrum, Woolf sacrificed himself to save Asemu. Woolf's death awakened Asemu's latent potential as a "Super Pilot," enabling him to defeat the X-Rounder Desil Galette and achieve heightened prowess without psychic abilities.
Following the Vagan retreat, Asemu rose to captain a Special Forces unit, repainted his Gundam white in Woolf's honor, and married Romary. In A.G. 151, shortly after their son Kio's birth, Asemu investigated a derelict warship. He encountered the massive mobile armor "Sid" guarding the EXA-DB database. His AGE-2 was severely damaged in the battle, and he suffered critical injuries. Presumed MIA by the Federation after only the damaged AGE Device and Gundam core were recovered, he was rescued by the Bisidian space pirates.
Discovering continued Vagan infiltration within the Earth Federation, Asemu joined Bisidian under the alias "Captain Ash." He adopted piracy to disrupt both Vagan and corrupt Federation operations, aiming to maintain a balance of power that would force both sides toward peace. By A.G. 164, he commanded Bisidian and piloted the refurbished AGE-2 Dark Hound, modified for stealth and close combat without the AGE System.
He re-entered the conflict by testing his son Kio and the Diva crew in a staged battle near Sargosso. During this encounter, he left an encrypted message capsule for Kio detailing the EXA-DB. Later, he collaborated with Flit to rescue Kio from Vagan captivity, revealing his belief that neither faction should gain absolute military superiority.
The OVA *Memory of Eden* expanded Asemu's relationship with Zeheart, depicting their initial meeting in Tordia, activities in the Mobile Suit Club, and a school play where Asemu portrayed Captain Hook opposite Zeheart's Peter Pan—foreshadowing their eventual roles. It recontextualized their first battlefield confrontation during the graduation ceremony, incorporating the AGE-1 Swordia variant and altering elements like Zeheart's mission objective (colony destruction) and Romary's role, emphasizing the tragedy of their fractured friendship.
Asemu's final confrontation with Zeheart occurred during the war's climax. Piloting the technologically inferior Dark Hound against Zeheart's advanced Gundam Legilis, Asemu disabled the machine through superior skill. Zeheart perished in the Legilis' destruction, reinforcing Asemu's commitment to end the conflict. Post-war, his actions contributed to the eventual peace between Earth and Vagan, facilitated by Mars' terraforming.
