Description
Grinpatch is a character from the anime and manga series Toriko. He serves as one of the Sous Chefs of the Bishokukai, the primary antagonistic organization in the story, placing him among its highest-ranking and most powerful members. Standing at an immense 240 centimeters tall and weighing 290 kilograms, his most striking features include a hunched, muscular frame, white eyes with large black irises that contain three distinct white pupils, and black teeth. He possesses six arms in total, with his second pair having a different skin tone, which is hinted to be the result of medical transplants. His face, neck, and original arms are decorated with purple tattoos resembling the pattern of a Devil Mosquito, the creature that is his animal motif and the source of his primary weapon.

Grinpatch’s personality is defined by a profound laziness and an insatiable gluttony. He often avoids tasks he finds bothersome, such as a mission to retrieve GT Robos, simply because he does not feel like fighting powerful IGO members. This apathy extends to his speech, where he frequently shortens the names of places and things, referring to the Regal Plateau as the Regal-whatever. He is an enormous glutton who becomes excited by the act of consuming large quantities of food, once sucking up all the creatures on a volcanic island and devouring another character's entire supply of BB Popcorn. Despite his laziness, he harbors a deep interest in combat and seeks to test strong opponents, showing a desire to fight Toriko again after the Gourmet Hunter grows stronger so he can fully enjoy the battle. He demonstrates clear cannibalistic tendencies, expressing a wish to eat both Toriko and his animal partner, Terry Cloth. According to analysis from another character, he possesses a personality that does not experience stress, contributing to his effectiveness in battle.

As a member of the Bishokukai executive, Grinpatch's primary motivation is to acquire the ultimate ingredient known as GOD for his organization's boss. He discusses this goal openly with Toriko, explaining that GOD only appears during a Gourmet Solar Eclipse and that the boss's massive appetite has increased because such an eclipse is near. His role in the story is that of an antagonist, serving as the main enemy during the BB Corn Arc and later appearing as an opponent in the Cooking Festival Arc. He is one of the first Bishokukai members powerful enough to enter the Gourmet World without the aid of a GT Robo, a testament to his considerable strength. He shares a practical partnership with a large, directionally-challenged pet called Jack, a captured level 85 Jack Elephant used for transportation and food gathering. He is also a colleague of the other Sous Chefs, including Starjun, and takes orders from the head chef, Cromade.

Grinpatch's development is shown through his evolving interest in the protagonist, Toriko. He initially toys with Toriko during their first encounter at Wul Volcano, fighting without serious intent and deciding to wait for the younger hunter to grow stronger before attempting to eat him. This establishes a recurring dynamic where he is a recurring threat who acknowledges and anticipates the growth of his rivals. His most notable ability is his inhuman lung capacity, which he channels through his signature weapon, a straw made from the proboscis of a Devil Mosquito. This straw is so durable that Toriko's initial Knife techniques could not cut it. With it, Grinpatch can perform a variety of powerful breath-based attacks. The Breath Gun fires fast, sharp air bullets that can easily tear through flesh. The Breath Bazooka unleashes a massive cyclone of air capable of devastating a large rocky area, though it requires a preparation time that obscures his vision. His most powerful technique, the Breath Missile, fires a massive pillar of air that can create incredibly wide and deep craters. He can also reverse the suction to draw people and beasts toward him, even if they are fleeing.

Beyond his offensive capabilities, Grinpatch possesses an extraordinary internal filtration system. His entire digestive tract, from esophagus to blood vessels, is formed like a filtration system that can detoxify any type of poison. This makes him immune to the Poison Virus of Coco, one of the Four Heavenly Kings, which simply circulates endlessly within him without effect. His body does react to consuming such poisons, causing his stomach to grow larger as a side effect. He also has extremely thick skin and a potent healing factor, demonstrated when he was unharmed by Toriko's Flying Fork and quickly healed a large cut across his chest, even licking his own blood in enjoyment. His intimidating presence is so immense that it caused Peaceful Flowers to wither and rot instantly just from him passing by.
