Description
Aru Honshō holds the position of vice class representative in Class 1-1. Her name, meaning "has a true nature" or "has a hidden character," mirrors her habit of masking her authentic self behind a meticulously maintained persona. Since birth, she has been regarded as misfortune-prone, frequently characterized as clumsy and forgetful.

She sports brown hair styled in a high ponytail with a red scrunchie, featuring bangs and two slender strands framing her face, alongside green eyes. Her school ensemble typically consists of a medium-length skirt, tights, brown shoes, and a woolen buttoned sweater worn over or replacing the standard uniform, accented by a small red ribbon on her chest.

To embody her role, she crafts an image of confidence, competence, and maturity, striving to project "perfect girl" ideals through punctuality, enthusiastic class participation, and vigilant care for classmates. Yet her genuine nature surfaces in frequent mishaps: appearing publicly with a uniform hanger attached, mistakenly wearing her mother’s undergarments, or arriving in her elementary school uniform while impersonating a fictional younger sister, "Mieru Honshō" ("Hidden Character is Visible"), to hide the blunder. These incidents prompt peers like Sunao Nako to dub her "unfortunate" or a "loser"—labels she fiercely disputes, often leaping vertically or headbutting Nako in retort.

Her bond with Hitori Bocchi forms when she mediates a misunderstanding between Bocchi and Nako. Here, she displays attentiveness by listening to Bocchi’s lengthy explanations and offering support, like rehearsing apologies together. Bocchi perceives Aru’s kindness beneath the facade, cementing their friendship. Aru consistently aids Bocchi, such as supplying flour during a cooking-class disaster, guiding her in making whipped cream to win peer approval, and inventing encouragement tactics like the "Do-Your-Best Beam" (finger-pistol gestures) or "Ninja Beam" to distract Sotoka Luckythar for Bocchi’s benefit.

Interactions with Nako remain combative yet underlie unspoken mutual concern. Nako’s teasing about Aru’s misfortunes sparks volatile reactions, but they collaborate for Bocchi’s sake. Nako eventually admits Aru’s flaws are endearing, urging her to embrace her true self. As classmates gradually uncover Aru’s hidden traits, her need for pretense wanes. She accepts that her quirks don’t diminish her effectiveness as vice representative, focusing instead on her accomplishments in supporting others.
