Akari Kitō
Description
Akari Kitō is a Japanese voice actress and singer born on October 16, 1994, in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture. She is affiliated with the talent agency Raccoon Dog. Her interest in anime, manga, and games was fostered by her father from a young age, and she was inspired to pursue voice acting after listening to radio programs hosted by voice actors. Before moving to Tokyo to pursue her career, she worked part-time, including at a ramen shop, a skill that led to her unique talent for draining noodles.
Kitō made her voice acting debut in 2014 with a role in the anime series Invaders of the Rokujouma!?. Her first major leading role came in 2016 as Calen in Time Bokan 24. Since then, she has portrayed a vast array of characters across numerous popular series. Her career-defining role came in 2019 as Nezuko Kamado in the monumental hit Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. This performance, where she had to convey a wide range of emotions almost entirely through grunts and sounds due to the character's bamboo muzzle, is widely credited with changing her life and significantly raising her profile in the industry.
Among her many prominent roles are Tsukasa Yuzaki in TONIKAWA: Over The Moon For You, Suzune Horikita in Classroom of the Elite, Nene Yashiro in Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun, Kotoko Iwanaga in In/Spectre, Sakura Adachi in Adachi and Shimamura, Kanata Konoe in Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club, Seiun Sky in Uma Musume Pretty Derby, Kate in Shadows House, Mio in Tsukimichi -Moonlit Fantasy-, Inglis Eucus in Reborn to Master the Blade, and Kyōka Uzen in Chained Soldier. Her filmography also includes a wide range of roles in video games, such as Barbara in Genshin Impact, Aiba in AI: The Somnium Files, and Ashley Graham in the 2023 remake of Resident Evil 4, as well as Japanese dubbing work for live-action films like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
In addition to her voice acting, Kitō is also a successful singer. She made her solo artist debut under the Pony Canyon label in October 2019. She has performed numerous theme songs for anime series in which she also stars, including TONIKAWA: Over The Moon For You, Battle Game in 5 Seconds, and The Reincarnation of the Strongest Exorcist in Another World. Her musical talents also extend to her character work, particularly as a member of the Nijigasaki High School Idol Club from the Love Live! franchise.
Kitō's work has been recognized with several major awards. In 2021, she won the Award for Best Supporting Actress at the 15th Seiyu Awards. She was also previously honored with the Female Voice Actor Award at the Newtype Anime Awards for 2018-2019. In 2023, she received the Singing Award at the 17th Seiyu Awards as part of the Nijigasaki High School Idol Club. Known for her cheerful and friendly personality, she is often called by her nickname "Akarin". Her hobbies include drawing and singing, and she is a self-proclaimed otaku.
