Description
The Nijigasaki High School Idol Club receives an invitation to the School Idol Grand Prix, or GPX, a nationwide competition where participants enter as individuals rather than representing their schools. Using a live-streaming app, each performer vies for the title of the most worthy school idol of the moment. This event becomes the central focus of the club's final chapter, splitting the group across Japan as they chase their dreams on their own terms.
The first part of the story follows six members—Ayumu, Kasumi, Shizuku, Kanata, Emma, and Lanzhu—as they travel to the sunny venue of Okinawa. Welcomed by the warm climate and scenic beauty, they meet and perform alongside school idols from all over the country. However, the competition stirs complicated feelings in Ayumu, who struggles with the idea of directly competing against her close friends to climb the ranks.
Simultaneously, the second chapter shifts focus to the remaining six members: Karin, Ai, Setsuna, Rina, Shioriko, and Mia. They head to a different set of venues in the Kansai region, splitting their activities among the ancient cultural hub of Kyoto, the energetic city of Osaka, and the exotic port city of Kobe. While immersing themselves in these distinct atmospheres, the group faces personal challenges. Mia Taylor, who is enjoying her life as a school idol, has a surprising encounter when her older sister, Chloe Taylor, appears before her. Meanwhile, Nana Nakagawa, who performs as her ideal self, the passionate idol Setsuna Yuki, finds herself wrestling with a difficult internal conflict regarding this dual identity.
The trilogy is set after the events of the two television seasons and the Next Sky OVA. The narrative continues to highlight the club's defining philosophy: supporting individual expression over group uniformity. As the School Idol GPX builds toward an unprecedented level of excitement, the story weaves together the personal emotions of each participant. The final film in the trilogy brings the journey back to Tokyo, where the narrative will reach its conclusion.
