Description
The second film in the trilogy serving as the finale for the Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club anime continues the story of the School Idol GPX, a competition to determine the most support-worthy school idol. While the first film followed one group of club members in Okinawa, this chapter shifts focus to the other six members: Karin Asaka, Ai Miyashita, Setsuna Yuki, Rina Tennoji, Shioriko Mifune, and Mia Taylor. They have traveled to the Kansai region of Japan, with the cities of Kyoto, Osaka, and Kobe serving as the backdrop for their activities and performances.
As the group begins recording promotional videos and enjoying the distinct cultures of the three cities, a personal crisis emerges when Mia’s older sister, the world-renowned singer Chloe Taylor, appears. Chloe pressures Mia to return to America with her, believing that a structured musical environment is superior to the time-limited life of a school idol. Terrified of losing her friend, Rina takes drastic action, using her engineering skills to hack and shut down the School Idol GPX event entirely. This act creates the central conflict of the story, forcing the group to confront what the competition means to them.
Concurrently, Nakagawa Nana, who performs as the idealistic school idol Setsuna Yuki, struggles with an internal dilemma. She worries about the fleeting nature of her activities as a school idol, questioning what will become of her chosen identity after graduation. Her anxiety is observed by Ai, who has long admired Setsuna as a hero. Their shared conversations lead to a deep exploration of their motivations, culminating in a powerful joint performance that redefines their relationship. The film also features subplots involving Shioriko’s determination to establish her solo career and Karin acting as a quiet, mature supporter from behind the scenes.
The narrative concludes with the announcement that the final venue for the School Idol GPX will be in Tokyo, setting the stage for the third and final chapter. The film explores themes of friendship under pressure, the fear of an uncertain future, and the lengths one will go to protect a cherished bond, all while showcasing the historical and modern landmarks of the Kansai region.
