Description
Takuma Onizaki is one of five guardians protecting Tamayori Princess Tamaki Kasuga. Initially a 17-year-old high school classmate of Tamaki, he possesses distinctive red hair and purple eyes that turn gold when his powers activate. Standing 178 cm tall with a May 11 birthday and type O blood, his build suits his combat role.
Descended from an oni (demon), Takuma exhibits immense physical strength but struggles to control his powers, especially near the sealed sword Onikirimaru. This lack of control initially makes him appear cold, impatient, and resistant to his duty, viewing it as imprisonment. Yet he reveals underlying calmness, maturity, and a fondness for quiet activities like crossword puzzles. He enjoys taiyaki and meat, engaging in occasional banter with fellow guardians despite his reserved nature. Interactions with Tamaki gradually soften his attitude, revealing greater gentleness and protectiveness.
A pivotal revelation establishes Takuma as the reincarnation of the Underworld God (Yomotsu Ookami) and the First Guardian of the original Tamayori Princess. In that ancient life, he held a forbidden romantic relationship with the princess. His desire for power led him to wield Onikirimaru, causing catastrophic damage until the original princess sacrificed herself to seal the sword. Before her death, he vowed to reincarnate as her protector.
His abilities center on overwhelming physical prowess, capable of destroying entities like the Drowned-God with a single punch. He displays exceptional stamina, recovering quickly from injuries and reacting swiftly in combat. While capable of memorizing and utilizing complex spells, doing so drains his energy significantly. Proximity to Onikirimaru or intense emotional distress risks triggering his inner demonic power, causing loss of control. Tamaki’s presence or intervention calms and stabilizes him during these episodes.
His relationship with Tamaki evolves from mutual friction and distrust into deep mutual reliance and romantic love, echoing their past-life connection. This bond becomes central to controlling his power and confronting threats. Forbidden by tradition, their relationship faces challenges, including forced separation by authorities fearing his instability and mutual, secret plans for self-sacrifice during the Onikirimaru crisis. They ultimately defy fate by resealing the sword without sacrifice, solidifying their commitment.
He maintains defined dynamics with other guardians: a sometimes-rivalrous but respectful bond with his senior, Mahiro Atori; mutual understanding with the sensible Yuuichi Komura; and limited interaction with Suguru Oomi. He acts as an unofficial brother figure within the group.
His character arc culminates in confronting the Logos organization and Eins, who seeks Onikirimaru's power. During this conflict, Takuma fully masters his awakened abilities, defeats Eins, and participates in resealing Onikirimaru alongside Tamaki. This resolution breaks the cycle of sacrifice, allowing him and Tamaki to pursue their relationship openly.
