Description
Cilan, identified as Millo in Italian, serves as one of three Striaton City Gym Leaders alongside his brothers Chili and Cress, specializing in Grass-type Pokémon. He also co-manages a restaurant with his siblings. After losing a Gym battle to Ash, Cilan is inspired by Ash's bond with Pikachu and chooses to accompany Ash and Iris on their Unova journey to advance his skills as an A-class Pokémon Connoisseur.

Eccentric and cheerful, Cilan expresses deep enthusiasm for life's details. His signature catchphrase, "It's evaluating time!", reflects his role in assessing Pokémon-Trainer compatibility, an approach he extends to diverse situations like investigations, declaring "It's detective time!". He possesses extensive knowledge of Pokémon battles, subways (dubbing himself a "Metro Connoisseur"), cooking, and fishing. Though empirical, his travels broaden his perspective.

His Pokémon team includes:
- **Pansage**, his first partner, sharing a close bond that enables seamless collaboration in battles and daily tasks.
- **Crustle**, initially a wild Dwebble whose rock shell was stolen by bullies. Cilan helped reclaim its home, prompting it to join him. He celebrated its evolution exuberantly mid-battle, exclaiming "Evolution time has begun!".
- **Stunfisk**, caught accidentally while fishing. Though their dynamic receives less focus, they share mutual care.

Cilan maintains strong family ties. He supports Chili's growth as a Trainer, battling him in Driftveil City to help him develop his own style. He also reunites with Brock in Johto, cooperating to calm an injured Gyarados. His friendships with Ash and Iris involve mentorship; he advises Iris on her Dragon Master goals and cooks for the group. He develops a rivalry with Burgundy, another Connoisseur he defeated, remaining courteous despite her resentment.

During his journey, Cilan participates in the Clubsplosion Tournament using Pansage in single battles. He later competes in the Pokémon World Tournament Junior Cup alongside Dawn. Post-Unova, he travels to Johto and appears in Kalos for a fishing tournament, meeting Clemont and Bonnie. He harbors a fear of Purrloin stemming from a past traumatic encounter. Cilan contributes significantly to resolving major conflicts, including aiding Ash in quelling the clash between the Legendary Pokémon Tornadus, Thundurus, and Landorus.
