Description
**Utsunomiya Yoritsuna**, a historical samurai of the early Kamakura period, became a Buddhist monk known as Renshō or Ogura Nyūdō. He was the son of Utsunomiya Naritsuna and married a daughter of Hōjō Tokimasa; his own daughter married Fujiwara no Tameie, son of the renowned poet Fujiwara no Teika. Yoritsuna shared a close friendship with Teika.

He commissioned Teika to compile a poetry anthology intended to decorate screens at his Mount Ogura residence in Kyoto. This collection formed the basis for the famous Ogura Hyakunin Isshu. As head of a leading poetic house, Yoritsuna's commission reflected his significant cultural influence.

In anime depictions, he appears as a supporting character with a bald head, wearing traditional monk's robes, brown eyes, and a mature appearance. His lineage expanded in Iyo Province (modern Ehime Prefecture) during the Heian to Kamakura transition, influencing later family histories in regions like Uwajima.
