Description
My Melody is a small rabbit character who originates from the magical parallel realm of Mariland. She is sent to the human world by the king of Mariland on a mission to collect one hundred Pink Notes. These notes are used to create Dream Power, a force capable of countering the Spirit of Dark Power, which threatens to destroy both the human world and Mariland by devouring human dreams. Upon arriving on Earth, My Melody meets a junior high school girl named Yumeno Uta, and the two become close partners in protecting people's dreams.
My Melody has a gentle, affectionate, and curious personality. She is known for her kindhearted nature and often places the needs of others before her own. When frightened or hurt, she lets out an exclamation of "Yaaan!" In moments of crisis, she may choose to ignore the situation entirely and calmly remark that the tea tastes good, reflecting a quirky tendency to retreat into comfort. She is innocent and sometimes naive, but she is also dependable and always willing to help her friends.
Her primary motivation is to fulfill the king's request and safeguard the dreams of humans. This stems from her inherent care for others and her sense of responsibility as a resident of Mariland. She does not act out of personal ambition but rather out of a desire to bring happiness and peace to those around her.
Within the story, My Melody serves as the main character from Mariland and works alongside Uta Yumeno. Together they use magic to counteract the chaos caused by Kuromi, My Melody's rival, and Kuromi's companion Baku. My Melody's role evolves across the series; in later arcs she becomes a candidate for princess of Mariland, tasked with turning black notes into Twinkle Gems for her crown, while Kuromi competes to become the Dark Princess.
My Melody's key relationships include her best friend Flat, a blue mouse with yellow ears, and her human partner Uta, whom she lives with and helps prepare meals for the family. She shares a long-standing rivalry with Kuromi, a mischievous character who uses dark magic, yet the dynamic remains playful rather than truly hostile. My Melody also has a family: her parents, her grandmother, who made the red hood she always wears, and her younger brother named Rhythm.
Throughout the series, My Melody shows consistent growth in her confidence and magical ability. She remains steadfast in her mission and learns to handle increasingly difficult challenges, all while maintaining her core kindness. She does not undergo a dramatic personality change but rather deepens her understanding of human emotions and the importance of dreams.
Notable abilities include exceptional cooking and baking skills, especially her cookies and almond pound cake. The magic she wields comes from a special item called the Melody Takt. When she waves it, a small heart-shaped sticker attaches to an object and brings it to life. This magic is primarily used as an antidote to reverse the spells cast by Kuromi's dark power.
