TV-Series
Description
Motoku Sousou is the leader of Kyosho Academy, a school that corresponds to the Wei kingdom in the series’ modern-day reenactment of the Three Kingdoms conflict. He carries the name and spirit of the historical warlord Cao Cao and is considered one of the most fearsome fighters in the Kanto region. Physically, he stands 170 centimeters tall with short brown hair and yellow eyes, and he is a third-year student at age nineteen.
In the early part of the story, Sousou appears detached and indifferent to the battles raging around his school. He spends much of his time sleeping and shows little interest in the political maneuvering or territorial disputes that consume the other fighters. This apathy stems from the fact that, before his dragon awakens, he simply does not care about the state of affairs. However, this passive demeanor gives way to a dramatic transformation once the dragon within him stirs. Upon awakening, Sousou becomes extremely violent, bloodthirsty, and power‑mad, completely possessed by the dragon’s influence. In this state, he is ruthless and driven by an insatiable desire for control.
Despite this descent into brutality, Sousou’s motivations are distinct from those of other fighters. He shows little interest in collecting rare artifacts such as the Gyokuji or the Hyakuhekitou; instead, his obsession lies in dominating powerful toushi (fighters) and bringing them under his command. This singular focus makes him a uniquely dangerous and unpredictable opponent. At the height of his power, he is often described as the strongest character in the series.
Sousou’s relationships are defined by his position and the dragon’s influence. He is close friends with Genjou and Houkou, two of his most loyal subordinates, and he often interacts with Kaku, whom he teases by telling her she looks cuter without her glasses. When Kanu Unchou refuses an offer of freedom in exchange for the Gyokuji, Sousou unexpectedly honors her request and returns the artifact, hinting at a more complex, mercurial nature beneath his dragon‑driven exterior. He also experiences strange recurring dreams in which an old man with writing on his forehead implores him to seek revenge.
Sousou’s development is marked by the struggle between his original apathetic self and the overwhelming power of his dragon. As the story progresses, he becomes increasingly consumed by this power, leading to a climactic confrontation in which he is finally defeated by the combined forces of Gentoku Ryuubi’s dragon (the power of lightning) and Hakufu Sonsaku’s dragon (the power of water). This defeat represents the ultimate resolution of his arc, as the dragon that possessed him is vanquished.
In terms of abilities, Sousou is a B‑rank toushi, but his dragon‑enhanced strength places him far above most fighters. His combat prowess is formidable, and he is capable of delivering devastating blows that can incapacitate even the strongest opponents, including Hakufu Sonsaku. His fighting style, when fully unleashed, is overwhelming and seemingly unstoppable until the combined efforts of multiple dragon users finally subdue him.
