Bachou Mouki inherited the spirit of the warrior Ma Chao via her clan's magatama, becoming its sole heir as the Mouki clan's last living child. She began her studies at Ryoshu Academy before transferring to Seito Academy.
She possesses a buxom figure, long reddish-brown hair often partially tied up, and amber eyes. Bachou typically wore a pink overcoat with a skirt or the Seito uniform, accessorized with pink fingerless gloves and sneakers.
Her personality differs between adaptations. The anime portrays her mirroring Hakufu Sonsaku's impulsive, combat-loving nature, frequently acting without forethought. The manga depicts her as more similar to Gentoku Ryuubi—ditzy yet deeply caring for comrades while retaining a strong sense of justice. She harbors a significant fear of snakes, though temporarily overcame this phobia during a mission with Hakufu.
Bachou's abilities center on the dormant spirit of Ma Chao within her magatama. This spirit awakens under extreme duress, particularly when friends are endangered, temporarily taking control. In this state, she exhibits heightened power and uncharacteristic violence, contrasting her usual demeanor. She reverts to normal afterward with no memory of the events.
Her story involves infiltrating Kyosho Academy seeking vengeance against Sousou for her brother Kansui's near-fatal injury, effortlessly defeating opponents like Soujin. She later encountered Kyocho, who revealed Sousou's absence before defeating her. Found despondent after this failure by Gentoku Ryuubi, the latter affectionately dubbed her "Maa-chan."
Bachou developed an unacknowledged, semi-mild crush on Koukin, initially insulting him as "a goldfish shit" while concealing her feelings. Her perception of him improved during shared experiences at Nanban, where she battled the Kentei-infused Teni multiple times and participated in avenging Hakufu's apparent death. A pivotal moment occurred when she encountered Sousou himself, listening intently to his words before deciding to join Seito Academy.
As one of Gentoku's "Five Tiger Generals" at Seito, Bachou occasionally trained with Hakufu, whom she viewed as a mentor. Her arc reflects the series' theme of resisting predetermined fates tied to magatama spirits, tracing her evolution from a vengeance-driven fighter to a complex figure navigating loyalty and personal growth.
