Description
Umezou, known as Ume, operates a tavern that functions as the gathering hub for the Five Leaves. Once part of a feared robbery gang, he abandoned crime when the leader dismissed him, considering his abilities redundant. He later married and fathered a daughter, Okinu, whose mother succumbed to illness. His fierce protectiveness toward Okinu defines key decisions, notably after she faced workplace harassment. Though initially resolved to murder the offender, he pivoted to founding the Five Leaves, masterminding a ransom kidnapping that birthed the group.

Gruff and slow to trust, Umezou gradually softens toward his comrades, notably Masanosuke, veiling concern behind brusqueness—a tsundere trait. His criminal past informs a pragmatic streak, engaging in kidnappings both to settle personal scores and aid a member’s bribery fund. Over time, his loyalty shifts from individual agendas to the group’s unified aims.

Okinu remains his emotional anchor, his tender paternal instincts clashing with a stoic façade. This duality underscores a layered identity forged by familial duty and a checkered history. As the Five Leaves’ linchpin, his evolution from solitary outcast to committed collaborator cements his centrality to the group’s cohesion and strategic endeavors.
