Description
Sheena Fujibayashi hails from the hidden ninja village of Mizuho in Tethe'alla. Discovered as a child in the woods, she was raised by the village chief as his granddaughter. Twelve years prior to the main events, she volunteered for experiments studying Summon Spirits. During this time, she met Corrine, an artificial summon spirit who chose to follow her after gaining freedom. They forged a deep bond, with Corrine becoming her constant companion and closest friend. Sheena later attempted to form a pact with Volt, the Summon Spirit of Lightning, at the Temple of Lightning. This endeavor ended catastrophically, claiming the lives of a quarter of Mizuho's population and leaving her grandfather comatose. The tragedy burdened her with profound guilt and a fierce sense of responsibility for her village.
Initially dispatched to Sylvarant as an assassin targeting Colette Brunel, the Chosen of Regeneration, Sheena believed eliminating Colette would save Tethe'alla from decay. Her early assassination attempts proved unsuccessful, sometimes hampered by mishaps like falling into a mine shaft during a confrontation on Ossa Trail. She encountered Colette's group repeatedly, including at Balacruf Mausoleum, where she revealed her motive was protecting her own world. After Luin's destruction by Desians, she sustained injuries defending its citizens and received healing from Colette's party. Witnessing Colette's kindness and selflessness prompted her to abandon her mission and join the group, temporarily setting aside her assassination goal.
Her character development focused on confronting past trauma. Tasked by Mizuho's leadership to form a pact with Volt during the party's visit to Tethe'alla, she faced the spirit again at the Temple of Lightning. When Volt attacked the party and targeted her, Corrine sacrificed himself to save her life. Fueled by grief and resolve, she successfully formed the pact with Volt, honoring Corrine's sacrifice. This marked a turning point, restoring her confidence in summoning. She subsequently traveled with the group to form pacts with other Summon Spirits: Undine, Gnome, Celsius, Efreet, Sylph, Shadow, Luna, and Aska. These pacts were essential for severing mana links between worlds and later stabilizing the unstable Giant Kharlan Tree. Sheena utilized the combined power of the Tethe'alla Summon Spirits to activate a Mana Cannon, aiding in calming the tree.
Personal conflicts stemmed from her past. Kuchinawa, a Mizuho villager who held her responsible for his parents' deaths during the Volt incident, confronted her. They dueled to settle their score; after she defeated him, he attempted suicide but was stopped. He subsequently left Mizuho to travel alone. Later, she witnessed Zelos Wilder's apparent betrayal at the Tower of Salvation, though this was later revealed as a ruse to protect the group. She participated in the final battle against Mithos on Derris-Kharlan, watching as Lloyd destroyed Mithos' Cruxis Crystal. Following the fusion of the worlds, she returned to Mizuho, dedicating herself to rebuilding the village and increasing its recognition.
Two years later, during events in the unified world, she reappeared to counter new threats. She rescued Marta Lualdi at the Temple of Ice and joined Emil's group to investigate Lloyd Irving's alleged involvement in the Palmacosta massacre. She aided in defeating the Vanguard and Richter, affirming her friendship with the new allies. After the final battle, she met with the group at the new World Tree, where Martel entrusted them with its true name to ensure its protection.
In combat, she wields specialized paper seals or cards imbued with elemental properties for offensive, defensive, and supportive effects, including explosions, healing, and resurrection. Trained in the Igaguri ninja style, she exhibits high agility, proficiency in hand-to-hand combat, and tactical use of substitutions and smoke-based evasion. Her summoning abilities allow her to call upon elemental spirits for powerful attacks or channel their mana for energy-based assaults. Her low-level superhuman physical capabilities, enhanced by an Exsphere, enable feats like surviving high falls and striking with exceptional force.
Personality-wise, she initially presents a stern, mission-driven demeanor, particularly as an assassin. Interactions with Colette's group reveal a compassionate core, especially towards children and civilians. Her guilt over the Volt incident manifests as self-doubt, but she gradually develops resilience and leadership qualities. Her relationship with Corrine underscores her capacity for deep loyalty, and his sacrifice catalyzes her renewed determination. She maintains a pragmatic yet protective stance towards allies and her village, evolving from a solitary operative into a committed team member dedicated to broader peace.
