Description
Magnius, a Desian Grand Cardinal, commands the Palmacosta Human Ranch through calculated manipulation and overt brutality. His reign began with assassinating the region’s governor-general and implanting a mutagenic seed in Dorr’s wife, forcing Dorr’s compliance via a fabricated promise of cure. He enforces fear by staging public executions, retaliating against dissent—exemplified by Chocolat’s mother’s punishment after her daughter’s defiance.
When confronting the protagonists, he seeks their capture to elevate his status among the Desians but withdraws after injury, delegating combat to subordinates. Later, he kidnaps prisoners, including Chocolat, and manipulates her into believing Lloyd murdered her grandmother, provoking her betrayal. This culminates in a decisive battle where he meets defeat.
Mortally wounded, he uncovers Rodyle’s deception—his fellow Grand Cardinal falsified Cruxis’s approval to eliminate the Chosen. A holographic taunt from Rodyle precedes the ranch’s destruction, yet Magnius dies defiantly, vowing allegiance to Yggdrasill’s half-elven supremacy.
Anime depictions place him at Balacruf Mausoleum, where Colette’s hymn disables his forces; he survives but is later noted among defeated Cardinals. The manga adds confrontations with Raine and Genis Sage, exposing their half-elven lineage and his failed recruitment offer. A spin-off DVD reimagines him in an academic setting, habitually absent to visit the Ranch, his activities tacitly permitted.
Scarred and muscular with a red ponytail, he dons purple-black armor augmented by mechanical components. His combat merges a flaming battleaxe and shield with pyrokinetic magic, unleashing Hell Axe and Hell Hound attacks. Prone to violent outbursts when challenged, he relishes exploiting emotional weaknesses, embodying a sadistic, temperamental enforcer of Desian ideology.
