Description
Tamao Kijima, a student in Kamihama City, serves as the Kirumin Detective Club’s primary technical support and navigator. Initially unable to activate his Kirumin transformation—a device enabling users to morph into animals—he defaults to a chicken form until episode 25, where he skips the transitional Kigurumin mode (resembling a baby chick) to transform directly into a Japanese white eye bird. His abilities later expand to include diverse avian forms: sparrow, crow, eagle, pelican, and notably a pteranodon, making him the first to transform into an extinct species. Though his Kigurumin mode initially impedes movement, it stabilizes by episode 37, enabling consistent transformations without skipping modes.

Shy and socially awkward, Tamao interprets advice with unwavering literalism yet demonstrates resolute determination, prioritizing objectives over others’ opinions. A fervent technophile, he engineers communication devices and delivers critical mission logistics. His loyalty shines in interactions with teammates, particularly best friend Ken Inomata, their dynamic mirroring Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. Tamao harbors a long-standing crush on Rimu Mikogami, reacting to her attention with visible fluster—his glasses often crack—though he seldom voices his feelings.

As the mayor’s son, Tamao’s background rarely impacts his club role. His journey centers on conquering self-doubt, mastering Kirumin transformations by episode 38. Early struggles to activate his ability spark theories ranging from perceived inadequacy to lacking Animalian heritage. Subtle details, like green eyes in animal forms—nodding to Rimu’s favorite color—hint at his affection. His name blends “tamago” (egg) and “tamanegi” (onion), referencing his hairstyle.

Tamao evolves from a hesitant member to a reliable asset through gradual confidence-building, embracing his unique skills. While relationships remain platonic, his bond with Rimu underscores emotional vulnerability. The narrative focuses solely on his technical prowess and perseverance within the club, without expanding into spin-offs or extended media.
