Description
Shin'ichi Bandō is a professional baseball player and a ten-year veteran third baseman for the Tokyo Yakult Swallows. He develops a sudden and unexplained inability to throw accurately, a condition known as the yips, triggered by performance anxiety from a younger, more popular player competing for his position.
After pretending to have an injured right shoulder to leave his team, Bandō seeks help at Irabu General Hospital under the care of Dr. Ichirō Irabu. There, he receives a vitamin injection from the nurse Mayumi, after which he is periodically depicted with the visual motif of a red horse with blue hair, symbolizing his internal struggle.
His narrative explores the psychological pressures on professional athletes and the impact of insecurity on performance. His treatment involves confronting the source of his anxiety—the new contender for his role—to address the root cause of his psychological block.
