Description
Sōichi Nishimura, the counselor at Fumizuki Academy, instills fear in students through his uncompromisingly strict disciplinary methods. Universally branded the "demonic" counselor by the student body, he carries the nickname "Ironman" for competing in triathlons and defiantly wearing short-sleeved shirts even in deep winter. His remedial classes—mandatory for students whose summoned beings faint in battle—are notorious; students regard them with intense dread, likening the experience to torture. He physically transports affected students to these sessions while declaring phrases such as "Those who were KIA must receive remedial lessons" or, in the English dub, "'Those who die meet me in the remedial class'".
Following Class 2-F’s defeat in a Summoner Test War duel, Nishimura replaces Shin Fukuhara as their homeroom teacher. In this role, he exhibits fierce commitment to educational principles, asserting that teachers must exemplify integrity for students. During a baseball game, he proclaims, “We teachers have to be role models for you students. If we can’t face you all head on, what can we teach you!”—showcasing his professional pride and dedication.
Beneath his harsh exterior, Nishimura occasionally reveals perceptiveness and consideration. He intuits that Akihisa Yoshii and Yuuji Sakamoto’s exposure of test questions serves a hidden purpose like neutralizing blackmail, rather than mere rule-breaking. He also designates Akihisa as a Punishment Bearer, permitting direct physical engagement with Akihisa’s summoned being during battles.
Nishimura wields his own rarely seen summoned being. An anime implication suggests it might be low-ranked due to insufficient summoning points, but light novel material contradicts this by depicting significant strength during a baseball game, enabling powerful plays like a home run. Its design and capabilities otherwise remain undisclosed across official media.
Throughout the series, movies, and OVAs, he remains a steadfast authority figure focused on discipline and academic rigor, enforcing rules while occasionally acknowledging students’ unspoken motives. His character arc shows no significant deviations.
