TV-Series
Description
Eishirō Sugata presides over Sorami High School's New World Discovery Club, relentlessly researching unexplained phenomena—including the enigmatic "New World," a black hole-like anomaly in the sky. His tall frame, white hair, blue-green eyes, and rectangular glasses define his appearance; he exclusively wears his school uniform due to owning no other clothes and maintains perpetually neutral expressions.

His past centers on familial tragedy. Sugata idolized his older brother, sharing a passion for flight and gliders. After a petty argument preceding a test flight, he performed a cursory glider inspection, missing a critical flaw that caused wing detachment mid-flight and his brother's fatal fall. Blamed for the accident, he was disowned by his politically prominent family, leaving his younger brother Yuugo as heir. This drove Sugata to seek atonement by discovering a "New World"—symbolizing both exploration and a personal quest for belonging. Following disownment, he lived self-sufficiently in a riverside tent, cultivating vegetables in the school garden and demonstrating survival skills like fending off wild bears and snakes.

Intellectually gifted, Sugata solves advanced mathematical problems effortlessly and repairs complex machinery—including Synapse technology. His combat prowess rivals that of childhood friend Mikako Satsukitane, who has yakuza ties and addresses him as "Ei-kun." Despite Mikako's persistent romantic advances, Sugata maintains a platonic, albeit exasperated, relationship with her.

Throughout events, he investigates Synapse-originating winged humanoids called Angeloids and collaborates with entities like Daedalus to uncover Synapse's secrets, impressing even its ruler with his analysis. During the "End Arc," he infiltrates Synapse to reprogram the Rule Obelisk, permitting one additional wish. Presumed killed by Ikaros Melan during this mission, his death is reversed when Tomoki Sakurai's wish resets reality.

Later life depictions show him as a 20-year-old university student in spin-offs like "Daisuki desu!! Mahou Tenshi Cosmos," continuing anomaly investigations. By "Yūryō Bukken Mō Dame Sō" (age 27–28), he contacts Yuugo—now aware of their familial tie—to discuss the "New World's" secrets, including Synapse's nature and the resemblance of Angeloid Hamuel to Yuugo's deceased childhood friend. His lifestyle evolves from tent-based to apartment living while retaining his exploratory dedication.

Sugata's development involves confronting his guilt over his brother's death. In Synapse's final battle, he tearfully admits his dream caused only pain and asks Tomoki to end it—breaking his usual composure. Post-resurrection, he acknowledges Tomoki's influence in helping him abandon self-destructive wishes for world annihilation.
