Nene Sakurada (also known as Penny internationally) is a five-year-old classmate and friend of Shinnosuke Nohara in the Futaba Kindergarten Sunflower Class. She serves as a core member of the Kasukabe Defense Organization alongside Shin-chan, Masao Sato, Toru Kazama, and Bo Suzuki. Her personality blends self-styled sweetness with inherited bossiness and a volatile temper like her mother's. She vents her frequent frustrations by physically striking a stuffed bunny rabbit; when the bunny is missing, she often redirects her anger onto Masao during play. She strongly prefers controlling social activities, especially her favorite game, "real omamagoto," where she always plays the mother. She typically assigns Masao or Shin-chan the role of her unsuccessful salaryman husband. Her forceful demands for this game, including arguments and divorce scenarios, regularly distress Shin-chan, Bo, Kazama, and especially the tearful Masao. She harbors a rivalry with Ai Suotome, bristling with jealousy when boys favor Ai. Outside these dynamics, she enjoys watching "Magical Girl Moe-P" and has affection for her multiple pet cats. In the film "Roar! Kasukabe Animal Kingdom," Nene participates in the conflict against SKBE's human-animalization plan. Exposed to a partially developed serum, she undergoes a partial transformation, gaining rabbit-like features while keeping her human head, alongside Masao (bat), Bo (penguin), and Kazama (pangolin). Using their new animal abilities, the group navigates challenges, evades SKBE operatives led by Bunbetsu, and infiltrates the organization's hidden underground forest base beneath Kasukabe, contributing significantly to confronting SKBE and resolving the crisis. Her relationship with Shin-chan is complex: she frequently shows impatience with his eccentricity yet consistently seeks his company, inviting him on outings despite her mother's reluctance. Moments like her distress at news of Shin-chan's potential move to Mexico reveal underlying care. She is one of the few who can exert control over Shin-chan, sometimes using physical discipline. Instances also occur where both jointly tease or scold Masao.
