Description
Akasha Shishidou, a former high-ranking monk of the Kōgon Sect and one of its top operatives, initially dedicated himself to the Sect's mission with deep faith. His motivation stemmed from a close relationship with his childhood friend and fiancée, Hibiki. Diagnosed with terminal cancer, Hibiki led Akasha to join the Sect specifically to access the ritual resurrecting her as a Shikabane Hime—an undead fighter bound to serve. Partnered together, they fought rogue Shikabanes, Hibiki requiring 108 kills to gain passage to heaven.

Upon defeating her 108th Shikabane, Hibiki unexpectedly reverted into a destructive rogue entity instead of ascending. Forced to kill her himself during her rampage while Hazama of the antagonistic Seven Stars observed mockingly, Akasha became profoundly disillusioned. He believed the Kōgon Sect deceived him about the Shikabane Hime's fate, as Hibiki was sealed without peace or salvation. This betrayal ignited a vengeful obsession against the Sect. He exiled himself for five years, stealing sacred sūtra scrolls from a Sect temple and refining forbidden techniques.

Returning, Akasha allied with the Shichisei (Seven Stars) and the Unclean Bunch organization to orchestrate attacks on the Kōgon Sect. He employed manipulative tactics, persuading vulnerable students to commit suicide so he could reanimate their corpses as Shikabanes under his control. One such puppet, Mizushima, assaulted Makina Hoshimura. Akasha specialized in sealing captured Shikabanes into a Mandala using the stolen scrolls, degrading them for his purposes. He later consolidated numerous Shikabanes into a massive conglomerate entity, Kisourenge, which he remotely controlled.

Akasha directed Kisourenge to attack Sekku Temple, aiming to eliminate his former comrades Keisei Tagami and Makina. During this assault, he coordinated with Shimen of the Unclean Bunch, who possessed Keisei's adoptive brother, Ouri Kagami, to stab Keisei. Though Keisei survived long enough to transfer his contract with Makina to Ouri, Akasha considered the battle a victory. He showed no remorse, viewing humans as expendable tools for his goals and exhibiting no guilt over causing deaths or creating Shikabanes.

Physically, Akasha possessed gray hair and green eyes, standing 173 cm tall. He typically wore a red yukata and carried sūtra scrolls. His personality blended intellectual traits like expertise in speed reading and memorization with a cold, vengeful drive. He disliked modern technology and favored quiet activities such as reading and fortune-telling. His downfall came during the temple assault when Makina, empowered by her new contract with Ouri and enhanced regeneration, overwhelmed his forces.

His conflict with Keisei, a former friend, stemmed from their shared past within the Sect. Akasha openly expressed radical views to Keisei, condemning the Sect's corruption and exploitation of Shikabane Himes. Their final confrontation ended with Keisei's sacrifice protecting Ouri and Makina.
