Description
Akira Tōoka (also romanized Akira Too'oka) serves as a Shikabane Hime contracted to the monk Sadahiro Mibu of the Kōgon Sect. She perished during a Shikabane attack, with specific pre-death details largely undisclosed in the anime. The manga reveals her entire family fell victim to Shikabanes; she sought out Sadahiro specifically to euthanize her transformed loved ones, sustaining fatal injuries from one during this mission. For unexplained reasons, she was revived as a Shikabane Hime instead of fully succumbing. Kohaku Hoshimura notes Akira displays unusual commitment to achieving salvation compared to other Shikabane Himes who often treat it as secondary.

Operating within a clandestine Kōgon Sect unit, her duties include eliminating rogue Shikabanes and her primary, grim responsibility: terminating Shikabane Himes who lose their Contracted Monks and risk turning feral. This unit uniquely holds sect authorization to kill living humans—a prohibition strictly enforced for others—underscoring the role's severity and specialization.

Daily life finds her working alongside Sadahiro and Ouri Kagami at Cafe Parthenon, frequently displaying a cynical demeanor. She maintains strict control over Sadahiro, often physically striking him to prevent divulging secrets or inappropriate comments. Her appearance features dark green hair (sometimes noted as violet) and brown eyes, typically accessorized with a light purple headband.

In combat, she employs firearms: an Ithaca M37 shotgun in the manga and a Remington M40 sniper rifle in the anime. Sadahiro enhances her marksmanship using his Zadan technique to imbue shots with spiritual energy. Her existence as a Shikabane Hime binds her to Sadahiro via a mystical catalyst. While catalyst destruction typically severs the monk-Hime connection, the Shikabane Hime's own willpower can sustain the bond regardless. Established sect doctrine promises Shikabane Himes entry to heaven upon eliminating 108 rogue Shikabanes, corresponding to Buddhist earthly sins. This doctrine is later exposed as false; instead of ascension, Shikabane Himes completing this task transform into indestructible destroyer entities. The sect secretly confines them within coffins while informing their monks of attained salvation. Akira's ultimate fate upon completing her quota remains undisclosed.
