Description
Kan'u Unchō, whose private name is Aisha, emerged from a childhood tragedy where bandits murdered her family. This event forged her dedication to protecting the innocent, propelling her to become the vigilante "Beautiful Black-Haired Bandit Fighter." Her path intersects with Chouhi (Rinrin), a young orphan recently bereaved of her grandfather. Recognizing shared trauma and Chouhi's loneliness, Kan'u forms a vow of sisterhood, effectively adopting her. This bond casts Kan'u as a fiercely protective guardian, often mistaken for Chouhi's mother despite their minimal age difference.

She embodies a powerful sense of justice, honor, and discipline, frequently displaying stubbornness when her principles clash with others. A workaholic tendency drives her deep immersion in military or governmental duties, sometimes pressuring others to match her intensity. Despite battlefield bravery, she harbors a pronounced fear of ghosts and supernatural phenomena. Kan'u is also acutely self-conscious about her physical appearance, particularly comments on her age or breast size, becoming easily flustered by such topics. Recurring narrative humor involves others expecting breathtaking beauty based on her reputation, only to find her appearance surprisingly average.

As a warrior, Kan'u wields the Green Dragon Crescent Blade (a guandao) with exceptional mastery, employing it for devastating slashes and thrusts. Her combat expertise extends to swordsmanship and horsemanship, augmented by enhanced strength, agility, and reflexes enabling acrobatic maneuvers and effortless overpowering of foes. She is a capable leader and orator, skilled at boosting troop morale and managing large military operations. However, she struggles to adapt to unexpected battlefield shifts and devise independent strategies. Emotional impulsiveness and a notorious inability to cook, often leading to minor kitchen injuries, mark her weaknesses.

Character development diverges across media. Visual novels depict her initially rejecting femininity and romantic attention, viewing being called a "pretty girl" as an insult. She gradually softens, developing romantic feelings for Kazuto Hongō (mistaken for the "Messenger from Heaven") and eventually consummating their relationship. Navigating complex bonds within a harem dynamic, she initially opposes it but later accepts shared connections, including a lesbian relationship with Chouryou. In later routes, she serves as Ryuubi's strict second-in-command, balancing discipline with underlying jealousy over Kazuto's affections.

The anime underscores her protector and sibling roles. After Ryuubi joins her group, Chouhi orchestrates a vow making Ryuubi Kan'u's older sister despite Ryuubi being younger—a dynamic Kan'u initially resists but ultimately embraces, addressing Ryuubi as "Aneue" (older sister). Her interactions with Sousou Moutoku feature unresolved sexual tension, including a near-sexual encounter halted by an assassination attempt. The anime also highlights her moral integrity, such as slapping a deceitful imposter posing as Ryuubi for valuing power above people's welfare.

Relationships anchor her arc. With Chouhi, she acts as a nurturing yet often exasperated guardian, frequently curbing Chouhi's impulsiveness. Her bond with Ryuubi evolves from mentorship to sworn sisterhood, reflecting mutual respect. Antagonistically, Sousou relentlessly pursues her romantically, leveraging promises and bargains. Kan'u's loyalty surfaces when she negotiates for Bachō Mouki's freedom at personal cost, demonstrating her willingness to sacrifice for others.
