Description
Takeru Amao is a fifth-grade student defined by his energetic, childlike, altruistic, and friendly nature. Deeply passionate about the Live On card game, he initially suffers consistent losses due to an aggressive battle style focused on relentless attacks without strategy. His circumstances shift dramatically after rescuing Peddal, a small dog-like creature actually capable of generating monster cards. Peddal grants him the rare Tategami Wolf card, enabling a Live Change transformation into a pyrokinetic, talking maned wolf. This form allows communication with monsters and marks a turning point.

Peddal remains his constant companion, though their communication is limited; they understand each other only during Tategami Wolf transformations, as Peddal's speech sounds like ordinary barking otherwise. As their bond strengthens, Peddal provides more cards, including a second Live Change card acquired around episode 13, allowing transformation into the aerial Blue Falcon monster, supporting his growth as a Card Liver.

His gameplay centers on a red-element deck primarily composed of earth-based monsters. Key cards include Sarusalsas, which serve as power sources for summoning stronger monsters but often exhibit cowardice, requiring protection. His transformations and monster interactions incorporate frequent accidental mixing of Japanese and English terms, a recurring trait.

He forms Team Invincible with close allies Ai Kozeri and Toru Makari, serving as its captain. Together, they compete in regional and national Live On tournaments. Ai, initially the top player at their school, experiences a shift in recognition after his emergence as a Live Change user, though they maintain a supportive rivalry. His sister, Mil Amao, initially disinterested in Live On, eventually takes up the game using a white deck focused on air-based monsters, influenced by his involvement.

His character arc involves confronting antagonists like George Kato, who seeks to exploit create monsters like Peddal for power. George commands the X-Crood team, wields darkness-based monsters, and transforms into Graphite Ghost. Their conflict culminates in battles where Takeru's determination to protect Peddal and uphold sportsmanship leads to X-Crood's dissolution and George's defeat.

Beyond tournaments, he navigates challenges involving ancient creatures, such as raising Blush, a red-and-white dragon hatchling from an egg gifted by Professor Matsudo. Blush imprints on Mil and communicates telepathically with red or white deck users, emphasizing themes of friendship and responsibility.

His development showcases gradual strategic improvement in Live On battles, shifting from sheer enthusiasm to more thoughtful tactics while retaining his core idealism. Relationships with Peddal, teammates, and adversaries drive his journey from a perpetual loser to a resilient contender motivated by protecting others and mastering the game.
