Description
Gauche Suede served as a dedicated Letter Bee for Amberground's Bee Hive delivery service, driven by ambition to become Head Bee and finance medical care for his sister Sylvette. Paralyzed since birth and reliant on a wheelchair, Sylvette's condition originated during the Day of Flicker—an event that extinguished Amberground’s artificial sun and fractured Gauche’s heart, erasing memories of his mother who died in childbirth. He channeled his focus entirely into Sylvette’s welfare.

Five years before the main narrative, Gauche discovered a young boy designated as a "letter," Lag Seeing, in Coza Bel’s Yodaka District. During their delivery to Cambel Litus, Gauche shielded Lag from Gaichuu assaults. Lag inadvertently activated Gauche’s Shindanjuu—a firearm discharging "heart bullets" via Spirit Amber—exposing his own Spirit Amber-implanted left eye. This encounter forged a bond, inspiring Lag to become a Letter Bee. Gauche entrusted his Shindanjuu, Nocturne #20, to Sylvette with instructions to gift it to Lag should he pursue the profession.

After relocating to the capital, Akatsuki, Gauche vanished and was presumed deceased. He reemerged as "Noir," a Marauder for the anti-government faction Reverse. Stripped of his memories as Gauche, Reverse’s leader supplied him with a new identity and a human assistant named Roda—subconsciously echoing his former canine dingo. As Noir, he wielded a new Shindanjuu, Gymnopédie, and unleashed Spirit Amber assaults like "Raven Black." His demeanor turned emotionless and ruthless, centered on stealing letters for Reverse’s objectives, though he retained protective instincts toward Roda.

Lag, now a Letter Bee, confronted Noir during an assignment. Despite Noir’s hostility and denial of recognition, Lag persisted in reviving his memories. In a pivotal clash, Lag discharged a specialized "letter bullet" imbued with his own recollections of Gauche into Noir. This partially restored Noir’s past, merging Lag’s memories with his Noir persona. Temporarily incapacitated, Noir later awoke at Bee Hive and feigned being Gauche to console Lag and Sylvette. Lag detected the ruse through their shared Spirit Amber link, exposing that Noir retained only Lag’s implanted memories, not his original ones. Noir confessed his wish to be Gauche while affirming his true identity and genuine concern for Lag and Sylvette.

In the manga continuity, Noir remained with Bee Hive after defeating the Cabernet Gaichuu, pledging aid against the government. He employed his Shindanjuu to uncover suppressed memories of Akatsuki, signaling reconciliation. The anime depicted Noir rejoining Reverse upon learning their leader intended to exploit "those who couldn’t become spirit." He allied with Lag to thwart the plot, nearly perishing, and ultimately stayed with Reverse to uphold their initial mission, bidding Sylvette and Bee Hive farewell.

Gauche/Noir’s capabilities evolved throughout his arc: his original Spirit Amber technique "Kurobari" (Black Needle) transitioned to "Raven Black" as Noir, while his Shindanjuu shifted from Nocturne #20 to Gymnopédie. Relationships defined his core—devotion to Sylvette, conflicted mentorship with Lag, and protective loyalty toward both iterations of Roda.

The non-canon special "Light and Blue Night Fantasy" omitted direct Gauche/Noir involvement but featured Lag reminiscing about him while handling Gauche’s Shindanjuu during an unrelated delivery.
