Description
Conrad Weller, also known as Conrart, is the second son of former Demon King Cecilie von Spitzweg and human swordsman Dunheely Weller. His mixed heritage renders him a half-blood without inherent maryoku, though he compensates with exceptional swordsmanship, achieving recognition as Shin Makoku's greatest swordsman. Despite his lineage, he forgoes the "von" due to his human parentage. He possesses light brown hair, light brown eyes with silver specks, and numerous scars from wartime injuries. At 96, his aging slowed after twelve, leaving him appearing in his early twenties.
Early life brought ostracization, particularly from younger brother Wolfram, who rejected him upon learning of his human blood. His youth featured a stern, prideful demeanor; some described his younger self as "terrifying," with a noted reluctance toward military academy training. A pivotal shift occurred transporting the future Maou's soul to Earth, encountering Shibuya Shouma. Shouma admonished his harshness, urging him to smile for his unborn child, catalyzing Conrad's transformation into his present calm, gentle self.
Twenty years before the main events, Conrad fought in the human-demon war. As captain of the half-blood Luttenberg Division, his battlefield heroics earned him the moniker "Lion of Luttenberg." Only he and childhood friend Josak Gurrier survived the Battle of Arnold. During the war, he formed a close bond with healer Julia von Wincott. After her death, he was entrusted with her soul, destined to become the next Maou. He transported it to Earth, ensuring its rebirth as Yuuri Shibuya. Conrad indirectly named Yuuri by mentioning "July" is pronounced "Yuuri" in his world, influencing Yuuri's mother's choice.
Serving as Yuuri's bodyguard and advisor, Conrad demonstrates unwavering loyalty, pledging to protect him with his life, arms, and chest. He lost his left arm defending Yuuri early on but regained functionality through a prosthetic arm. This limb, provided by ancestor Robert Belal and preserved by god Shinou, serves as the key to the forbidden box "End of the Wind." His dedication manifests in extreme actions, like feigning betrayal under Shinou's orders to infiltrate Big Shimaron and locate the forbidden boxes. During this mission, he staged an attack on Josak to signal reinforcements and later shielded Yuuri from arrows, accepting any resulting punishment without hesitation.
His relationships remain complex: the bond with Wolfram stays strained by initial rejection, though mutual care persists. His deep friendship with Josak, forged in childhood and solidified in war, allows rare vulnerability. With Yuuri, he acts as protector, guide, and emotional anchor, often engaging in baseball-themed relaxation; Yuuri refers to him as "Nazukeoya" (godfather) due to the naming connection.
Notable traits include a notoriously poor sense of humor, an inability to tolerate alcohol, and a documented romance with a "maidmer" (a fish-human hybrid resembling a tuna). His growth pattern involved human-like aging until twelve, then slowing significantly.
