Description
Yutaka Kobayakawa, cousin to Konata Izumi and younger sister to Yui Narumi, is affectionately nicknamed "Yuu-chan" by Konata and her father. Born December 20th with blood type A, she resides in Satte, Saitama Prefecture. Her appearance is distinctly petite, featuring salmon pink hair usually tied up in high pigtails secured by blue or white ribbons, and green eyes. She ranks as the second-shortest character in the series, even shorter than Konata, possessing a frail, childlike physique that contributes to frequent illnesses.

Due to her weak immune system and the long distance to Ryōō High School, Yutaka moves in with Konata's family during her first year to ease her commute and gain support. Her health historically hindered lasting friendships before Ryōō. Meeting Minami Iwasaki during the entrance exam, when Minami lent her a handkerchief, sparked a close bond. At Ryōō, Yutaka befriends Minami, Hiyori Tamura, and Patricia Martin, and runs for class president in Class 1-D on her very first day.

Cheerful yet vulnerable, Yutaka maintains a positive outlook but expresses anxiety over her height and underdeveloped physique, lamenting "Oh no! I'm so tiny!" She eventually accepts this after noting Konata also stopped growing in high school. Academically strong in Japanese, she struggles in physical education. Her interests include treating the internet "like her toy," enjoying hot foods like steaming oden, and animals. She dislikes milk, her sickly constitution, and aggressive people.

Her friendship with Minami is profound, as Yutaka often uniquely understands Minami's behavior. This closeness frequently inspires Hiyori Tamura to imagine them as a yuri pair, sketching doujinshi characters resembling them, though Hiyori suppresses these thoughts out of respect. Yutaka's innocence surfaces in questions like "What's yaoi?"

In group activities, Yutaka readily agrees to Patricia Martin's proposal for the cheerleading opening act at the school cultural festival. She shares a supportive relationship with Konata, who checks on her well-being with questions like "Onee-chan, why are you up so late?" during late-night encounters.

Her surname, Kobayakawa, meaning "small, early river," reflects her delicate nature. Konata once likened her to a squirrel in an animal personality game, and she is left-handed.
