Description
Arleen Neyson served as a technical officer for the Earth Federation Forces during the One Year War, contributing to the experimental RTX-440 Ground Assault Type Guntank's development. Her life shattered when her lover, Clyde Bettany, defected to the Principality of Zeon, taking classified RTX-440 data with him. This betrayal caused the Guntank project's cancellation and led to Neyson's conviction on charges of complicity, resulting in a life sentence.

Facing permanent incarceration, Neyson accepted an offer of amnesty from her commanding officer. The condition: participate in the Battle of Odessa alongside two other convicts. She agreed, taking command of one of the three RTX-440 prototypes completed before the project ended. Her driving motivation was vengeance against Bettany, whom she believed would be present at Odessa with Zeon forces.

During the battle, Neyson's Guntank spearheaded an assault against Zeon's devastating Dabude-class land battleships. Her unit destroyed the first Dabude, though both teammates perished. Despite this victory, Federation forces continued suffering artillery bombardments. Colonel Michael Colmatta initially blamed friendly fire, but Neyson correctly identified a second Dabude as the source.

Ignoring Colmatta's direct order to retreat, Neyson charged the second Dabude after the spectral Goddess of Death appeared, confirming Bettany's presence aboard the vessel. She disabled multiple enemy mobile suits during her assault before her crippled Guntank confronted the battleship directly. Bettany, indeed on the Dabude, recognized the Guntank and radioed Neyson. He expressed relief she avoided execution and apologized, but Neyson, consumed by rage, rejected his pleas and triggered the Guntank's self-destruct mechanism.

The explosion destroyed both machines. In the aftermath, Neyson's spirit encountered the Goddess of Death, who revealed Bettany had been a Federation double agent. His defection and sabotage of the RTX-440 project were necessary sacrifices to infiltrate Zeon's command structure. This revelation plunged Neyson into despair, realizing her vengeance had killed an ally and led to her own futile sacrifice.
