Description
Rayban Surat is a Sergeant and tank driver in the Earth Federation's 301st Tank Squadron, 1st Platoon during the One Year War. Assigned as the driver for Lieutenant Herman Yandell's command tank, Surat observes Yandell's relentless fixation on hunting a specific Zeon mobile suit pilot, the "White Ogre," who commands a distinctive MS-06J Zaku II Ground Type. Throughout combat, Surat witnesses a spectral entity—an Angel of Death or Shinigami—persistently accompanying Yandell, an apparition potentially born of battlefield trauma or a literal omen of mortality.
His direct experience unfolds during Operation Odessa, a major Federation offensive. In these battles, Surat sees Yandell's tactical choices driven by vengeance against the White Ogre, culminating in a direct confrontation where Yandell's unit destroys the targeted Zaku. Yandell perishes shortly after this victory. Unlike other protagonists in the series, Surat survives the events of his narrative arc, emerging as the sole viewpoint character to endure the conflict depicted in his episode.
