Following the traditional Grimm resolution, a woodsman hears the disturbance, enters the cottage, and kills the wolf. He cuts open the wolf's stomach, freeing Cappuccetto rosso and her grandmother unharmed. The woodsman fills the wolf's stomach with stones, causing the wolf to collapse fatally when he tries to run away.
